What a Bartow connection? Call Valpo.

Or UCLA.

The game was dropped because Memphis scheduling isnt completely in its own hands...As I under stand it, Memphis believes there are enough heavy weight to lift this year in their new conference, and they just dont need, UAB for RPI, money or Fans happiness.

However as so far as an elevated status goes, Memphis is still in CUSA, in that their new conference is like CUSA and the MWC as so far as competition and national recognition is concerned.
Heck when the Catholics heard that Beal and Burbon street were coming to the BE, to protect the brand, the Catholics left taking the name with them.

What a slap in the face, THE REAL BASKETBALL SCHOOLS wanted no part of Memphis.

So when, not if the Bearcats join some other football playing conference, there by leaving Memphis in a conference with other CUSA defectors, they will realize they aren't back to square one, they are in fact, further back... back to courting any conference they believes elevates them to the elite status they see themselves as so deserving to belong to.

So we will playa basketball schedule with or without Memphis on it and we will be no worse for it.

GO BLAZERS !!!

Memphis' basketball program isn't elite in terms of prestige, but we're not far from that. And you're kidding yourself if the basketball schools left because MEMPHIS was added. If anything we were the one addition they approved of.

The following teams would make good opponents for a Gene Bartow classic in order of preference

1. Memphis
2. uCLA
3. Ole Miss
4. Valpo
5. ETSU
6. Illinois
7. Central Missouri State

I agree with this.

if Memphis does not want to play take the next team on the list.

If we never play them again I won't lose and sleep. I personally would like to see ETSU again and would love would play Valpo. I would give them each a two for one. Would be a fun road trips.

Is Conference USA increasing the number of conference games now that they are going from 12 to 16 to 14 schools?

I bought that argument until you scheduled LeMoyne Owen.

Yeah, me too. If the schedule came out, and there were a ton of big time games on it, I'd get it. But Austin Peay, Nicholls State, NW State, Arkansas Little Rock, SEMO, Jackson State, and LeMoyne-Owen are not good games.(and I'm well aware we have the same crap on our schedule) Surely we could have found a way for each team to get rid of one crap game and make it work.

I also don't understand how as a UAB fan it has to be a home and home series or nothing. We are cool with UNC doing 2 for 1. I'm sure we'd be cool with Louisville, Kentucky, Duke, Indiana, MSU, etc. doing the same. Memphis is in a tier just below these top teams, and I'd have no problem doing a 2 for 1 with them as a fan. I'd much rather have a road game against Memphis than ever have to see two D-2 schools on our schedule again.

All of those schools that you mentioned are on the Memphis schedule because they are buy games. Memphis only has Oklahoma State and Gonzaga on its schedule as home and homes this year. Taking into consideration that Ole Miss, Tennessee, and Louisville are strong possibilities for future home and homes, there really isn't any room for a UAB home and home in the near future. The only possibilities I can see are UAB coming to Memphis as a buy game, which I strongly doubt that UAB would agree to, or play a neutral site game somewhere close to both schools like Tupelo or Nashville.

Besides the fact that Ole Miss is close geographically and UTK is the UAT in Tennessee, why do you want to play them? Ole Miss is traditionally not strong and UTK has struggled.

Athletic director over ruled Pastner and tied the games to football

Personally, I'd rather play UAB home and home than any of the local SEC teams. As Memphis Blazer said, the AD shoehorned those games in without giving Pastner much of a say.
