And the city of Houston has spent $1B building the SE light rail line connecting the Alley Theater downtown to Minute Maid Park to BBVA Compass stadium (Dynamos) to the new UH stadium and the backside of campus beyond to McGregor Park. Students are a train ride away from downtown and the medical center. Visiting fans can stay at one of the many downtown hotels built for the Super Bowl a few years ago, and ride to the game on the train.
I'm sure visiting aac fans will appreciate that.
We already are the 3rd largest school in the state with the 3rd best average SAT score among public schools. We do the 4th most research behind Rice, UT and A&M. Our graduate programs are excellent. The future of the school is very bright. The athletic facilities are coming into place, and the new TV deal with the new conference is the best exposure we've ever had. Once the right coaches are in place, look out.
According to the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board, UH beats Tech by 5 points on average SAT score. 1110-1105. However, Tech has a better ACT average than UH, 24.25-23.75. The 1 big difference is graduation rates. UH is awful in that category.

As far as graduation rates go. If we were out in the middle of the desert like Tech, it would be much better. We have alot of students start at UH and go to other schools. It does not mean our students suck, they just chose to move on, or go away to school for their last year or two. The only people who go to Tech, are those jacked around in high school and who cannot get into A&M or Texas :)

RE: New University of Houston Football Stadium Taking Shape
This year UH raised it's admission requirements to pass UNT for #5 toughest in Texas. Very commendable and shows UH is raising its academic profile. As for student population, UH is only #3 in Texas because of commuter students. Texas Tech, Texas, and Texas A&M are the only public schools in Texas with >90% full-time enrollment students. Considering only full-time enrollment, which forms the backbone of alumni support, Tech has the 3rd largest student population in the state.

UH isn't a destination school which is why Houston has pathetic alumni/student support. Most kids don't grow up wanting to be a Houston Cougar. I was accepted to both Tech and A&M and chose Tech. I grew up in Houston and I wanted to get as far away as possible.

Sorry if I'm skeptical about her claims. I think most Texans remember the "Tier 1" billboards across Houston as well as the uh website claiming uh was a tier 1 school. In fact, uh wasn't a tier 1 school.
This article was in 2011 before UH moved into USNWR Tier 1.
http://thedailycougar.com/2011/09/20/tier-what/
Quote:Any unadorned claims that the University of Houston is a Tier One university are a distortion of the truth regarding its true status as an institution of higher learning. Several recent college rankings reflect the degree to which campus leaders have been overstating UH’s prominence.
Quote:Considering UH’s relatively lax acceptance standards, its less-than-stellar 46 percent six-year graduation rate and its steadily declining teacher evaluations, it is unlikely that the University’s status will improve in the near future.
Quote:Recently, the U.S. News & World Report released their annual list of the best national universities, and UH was distinctly missing. This omission was not due to any oversight. Rather, UH’s rank fell outside of the range that was published. For perspective, UT was 45th, Texas A&M was 58th, UT-Dallas was 143rd and Texas Tech was 160th. Not only was UH far removed from the two officially recognized Tier One universities in Texas, it placed below two of the state schools that are competing for a Tier One ranking of their own.

LOL So Renu Khator is lying about a statistic that will soon be published all over the place? You crack me up.
The Tier 1 billboards came when UH made the top Carnegie "Very High Research" tier in 2011. Something Texas Tech has yet to obtain.

Lol... In your little lubbock tech dream, no one grows up wanting to attend Houston... I dont expect you to know this, but FYI, The University Of HOUSTON is a very well known program here in Houston, Dallas, San Antonio, Austin and even in little ol Lubbock, that's right, little ol Lubbock too.

Simple question, does Carnegie label Universities as Tier 1-2-3 etc???????
Did renu and the coog high leadership distort the real truth????
Yes, she did and the commuters from coog high run with it and act like its gospel.
I can you promise this, Tech won't be screaming from the rafter tops when we achieve a research goal that means nothing in the real world.
I hope you enjoy the aac.
For a little bit, I was hoping coog high would kick the crap out of the commuter school in cincy but I might change my mind.

Simple question and solution------ do something coog high fans haven't done since 1977----- average 40K for a season.
Yes, I absolutely agree with you. Coog high is the place where students find better Universities once they realize their options.

LOL it's ironic to be called Cougar High School by a T-Shirt fan of a school that's below UH in the academic pecking order according to Forbes, Carnegie, Princeton Review, ARWU, average SAT scores, etc. Someone who continues to use "Coog High" over and over to make themselves feel better says so much more about the person using the term than the school they are trying to describe.

Your schtick is soooooo old.
I could have gone to UT (on scholly) and decided to go to (pay) UH. People like me do exist even if you don't think we do.
Your fixation with UH is just hilarious.
All you are doing is proving my point that a Tech/UH game each year would be a great draw from both sides.
We love to "hate" each other!

I know I shouldn't bother but t-shirt fan? I have degrees from 2 Universities.
