Quote:Fla. State/Clemson - Because their constant whining about bolting to the Big 12/wanting a "football" school screwed UCONN out of an invite to the ACC (that was wrongfully taken away the year prior).

Hate to break the news to you but you weren't getting in the ACC regardless of what BC, FSU, and Clemson said. There weren't, aren't, and probably never will be enough yes votes to get you in. You simply don't bring enough to the table to up the payout enough to offset what you will take away.

Its been 23yrs, man. I think that's been enough time to get over the loss to UCONN. If it helps you feel better, UCONN did lose to Duke in the next round that year. I won't even dignify your alleged "insider" knowledge on the inner workings of the ACC expansion committee, as I get the feeling you're holding a 23yr grudge. Whilst, also spitballing. IMHO.

Not sure what par of your ass you pulled that response from, but I am just stating the facts. It was reported extensively when Louisville was added that UConn got a grand total of four votes. UNC, Duke, Wake, and UVA. It has also circulated on Clemson insider boards that there is almost no scenario where Clemson would support UConn membership in the ACC because again they would not bring enough to the table to offset what they would take off of it. I would imagine that FSU has also adopted the same stance.

Adding UConn wouldn't be just adding a mediocre football program at best, it would also ensure that the conference is saddled with three mediocre football programs in the NE with little chance of any improving beyond the occasional upward blip for a season or two because there simply isn't enough talent north of PA, or general unaffiliated college football fans to support three programs. The ACC is probably already pushing the limit with two, and I highly doubt you will see a time where BC and Cuse are both playing at a high level for any length of time.

You could actually scratch Carolina off the list of those that would offer to help UConn. With the departure of Holden Thorp as Chancellor, UConn just doesn't have any support left in Chapel Hill.

RE: Top 5 teams that you despise the most...
1. Kentucky
2. Xavier
3. Louisville
4. Ohio State
5. Duke

Reasons:

Kentucky:

fans are the most arrogant in the nation. This is how bad it gets. Recently, a fan/friend of the family, wore a UK sweatshirt to a funeral of one of our family members knowing we are all Cincinnati fans. She's part cow and has had reductions in the past so you all know she got a lot of attention. UK fans call the radio stations, complain about a lack of news coverage in Cincinnati, refuse to play Cincinnati in football or basketball. Recently, a news story was aired on a local TV station (9) about how UK actually prevented a local Kentucky hospital from having a new born intensive care unit to care for critically ill newborns. At the time, critically needy newborns had to be shipped to Cincinnati on a 20 minute drive to a level 3 newborn intensive care unit or nursery. Recently, the local Kentucky hospital has team up with Cincinnati Children's to develop a unit in a Kentucky hospital so that newborns can receive the critical intensive care they need immediately without having to lose the important early moments. Absolutely astounding.

Xavier:

Are you kidding? My god, where to start. Their fans, professors and alumni talk about Cincinnati as though we are dirt. One alumni recently asked me how I can stand Oscar Robertson as being an alumni of my university at a party. Xavier officials and alumni speak of Cincinnati as though it is a second rate school that should not even be considered a university. I wish the worst for this school and alumni. Also, when I told my neighbor about my son graduating and obtaining a high paying job with the oil and gas industry, he couldn't believe it. He thought I was kidding.

Louisville:

This group is another with an arrogant fan base. Somehow we are now second rate to Louisville despite beating them in football five of the last six years and pretty much splitting the series with Louisville in basketball over the past five years. This second rate university trails Cincinnati in every academic and financial category except in athletics. Louisville has a much larger athletic budget and has had more success. Cincinnati has double the enrollment, endowment, academic standards, national merit scholars, overall academic budget. Generally speaking, I hate the south.

Ohio State:

I have pretty much come to believe that OSU has been keeping Cincinnati out of the mix in the Big Ten and maybe has even influenced other leagues against Cincinnati has well. (can't prove the latter, but I know for a fact the Big Ten is off limits for UC primarily because of OSU.) OSU practicing in Cincinnati last year was a slap in the face. Yet OSU refuses to play Cincinnati other than on it's home turf. Next game is 2014 at OSU. I guess we will have to beat them there.

Duke:

what an arrogant group I met last year at the Belk Bowl. Dukies stick their nose up every chance they get. One even stated he didn't know Cincinnati had a football team. I'm certain he does now. After hammering them in the Belk Bowl, knocking out the QB and scoring two touchdowns late, hows that for fortitude. Duke made some lousy, dirty hits on our players, the Duke head coach accused our team of cheating on field goal try by sending a player into the game late causing a penalty when our coaching staff was reduced in half to five coaches. Even the ESPN announcers indicted it was a screw up on the Cincinnati coaching staff because of the reduced numbers, Duke sent players back onto the field with clear concussions only to have them leave the game, then continuing to state how they are the best school with the best kids. I got news for Dukies, Cincinnati has won the last two meetings, the Belk Bowl in football, and the championship of the Great Alaska Shootout in basketball. Not one person said congrats after that game, not one. They all knew I was a Cincinnati fan because I wore my S- - - all over the place.

Close but not on my top 5

6. Notre Dame
7. Miami, Ohio
8. Georgetown
9. Syracuse
10. UNC

RE: Top 5 teams that you despise the most...
Top 5? I'm not sure if I can get past 3 total and what order to place them? I've always hated Notre Dame and disliked WVU. I grew up a Penn State fan and planned on going to college there until my girlfriend (now wife) went to Kent St and transferred back to be closer to me. Since I couldn't leave her I decided to go to Pitt where I became a fan. However, I rooted for Pitt #1 & PSU #2. That was until my first engineering gig where everyone was State Penn grads and would rag on me about Pitt everyday even though they knew I pulled for their beloved school too. This went on for years and now I can say that I hate Penn State. "My two best buds are PSU grads and hate the fact that I now hate PSU."

So, on the hate scale I list them as ALL as #1.

On the 'I want to play them every year scale.'
1. State Penn
2. WVU
3. Golden Domers

no, can I at least muster a begrudging level of respect for those schools but the Buckeyes represent all that is wrong with college football.

I know it's a long shot (10%-20% chance), but it would be hilarious if the B1G took UConn. Then the B1G would have a much bigger share of the Northeast than the ACC.

Penn State, Maryland, Rutgers, UConn > BC, Syracuse, Pitt

Notre Dame- every year they start off 2-0 we have to hear the "awaken the echos" and Notre Dame is back talk.

Alabama- I actually like Alabama's program and Nick Saban but their fans make you want to root against them. Their fans have always been obnoxious but since Nick Saban has arrived they're now obnoxious and naive. They were much better to deal with from 96-2007.

Texas- the definition of overrated.
