Missouri should end up this year ranked as one of the top 5 or 6 teams in the country----and to think UT played them pretty good in the second game of the season, even with the UT mistakes---IMO it is a game that UT, with a near perfect game, might have won. It will be interesting to see how high Missouri is ranked next year when they visit the Glass Bowl----I would certainly think in the top ten, but just exactly how high?
Again the table is favorably set for the 2014 Rocket RB team---will the coaching staff have them prepared to capitalize? Time will tell.

Missouri's weak point, the QB, is graduating. They're still going to be tall at the WR. If Josey stays and with Mauk at QB, it's going to be a chore to stay in the game.

Granted James Franklin did not have a good Cotton Bowl, but I believe most would argue that he was a strength for Mizzou.

His QBR in the last three games against tougher competition: 67, 53, 26 and in EVERY game in which other Mo QBs also played, he was lowest. His stats came against the weaker part of the schedule. Mauk started out slow as would be expected for a RS FR but then he was in the 80s and 90s.
Missouri will have a much better arm, decision maker and a competent runner at the QB position next year. Hopefully not for one particular game but that's what I expect to happen, depending upon how their WR situation shakes out after draft.

Not sure I would go so far as to call Franklin their "weak point", but I do agree that Mauk comes in with some experience and has shown that he should be more than an adequate replacement and I agree that UT will face a major challenge.
The thing I liked most about Pinkel's teams was that they were very well coached, very disciplined and, as he was fond of saying, they don't beat themselves (by making mistakes: careless, stupid or otherwise) or by taking chances. It didn't always make for exciting football, but it did often produce winning above what his talent level would suggest likely.

RE: 2013 opponents/MAC teams not on UT schedule
A winless bowl season for the MAC. Last night Ball State took the lead with about 90 seconds left but couldn't hold on or tie the game in what must have been a wild last 2 minutes. Cardinals lost to Arkansas State 23-20 as they gave up a TD with 32 seconds to go. Cards had a chance to send it to OT but a field goal was blocked on the game's last play.

Missouri finished 5th in both the final AP poll and the final coaches poll. Northern Illinois and Navy were in the "others receiving votes" in each poll. Regarding teams on the 2014 schedule (along with NIU and Missouri) Cincinnati received 3 votes in the coaches poll.

Eastern Washington finished 3rd in the final FCS poll. Looking ahead to next season again, New Hampshire finished 5th in that poll.

I didn't think this warranted a new thread so I thought I'd put it here.
UMass gets a transfer from Penn State: Alex Kenney was a wide receiver for the Nittany Lions and he's transferring under the rule that allows fifth-year seniors to play without sitting out for one season. Here's a link if you're interested.
