Here's a popular train of thought on the subject:

"ONCE A MARINE, ALWAYS A MARINE:
Once a Marine, Always a Marine: This truism was adopted as the official motto of the Marine Corps League. The origin of the statement is credited to a gung-ho Marine Corps Master Sergeant, Paul Woyshner. During a barroom argument he shouted, "Once a Marine, always a Marine!" MSgt. Woyshner was right. Once the title "U.S. Marine" has been earned, it is retained. There are no ex-Marines or former-Marines. There are (1) active duty Marines, (2) retired Marines, (3) reserve Marines, and (4) Marine veterans. Nonetheless, once one has earned the title, he remains a Marine for life. "

FYI, the NCAA reversed it's decision and have ruled that he is eligible to play. He has begun practicing with the Blue Raiders. All is right in the universe, once again.

Good point, I was not one of the few, the proud. I was a an Army grunt.

I was very happy to see this issue resolved as it irked my inner being. I did not recieve any responsed to the letter, but hopefully I was just one of many people raising the issue. I may have not gone to the trouble of composing the letter had the NCAA made composed better press releases. They must be taking their cues from JMU! (Just brought this thread full circle!) 05-nono

Merf. Who cares? Not like there's a lot of new conversation going on here anyway.,,

Then why is there an OT forum?

My point is... He shouldn't be exempt because he's a veteran, he should be exempt due to the informality of the league. The rule is there for a reason and the appeal worked as it should.

As a Marine veteran, I agree. Everything worked as it should as long as the Andy Taylor approach is taken rather than the Barney Fife. Every now and again, life takes you in the same path as a knucklehead who cannot think on his own. Its called life. This young Marine would have been fine either way. Disappointed? Yes. But, isn't that just the way life is?
