I remember riding home listening to the Ohio post game and it was estimated by the Ohio announcers that Marshall had brought nearly 10K to Athens for that game the year before last. Probably wont be as much this year with it being an 8pm game time but I would still expect 7-8K herd fans there.
I wouldn't be surprised if they end up turning away some of those driving up from Marshall to Athens this time.
Last year Ohio had to turn away students because 26,000 is the max the Fire Marshall will allow.
Yeah that might happen. 8pm games are a little difficult on some people that are driving back after the game. Wish it would have been played at 7 instead but I still think the crowd will be good.
Good? Last year Ohio averaged 24,000 for Saturday games in a 22,000 seat stadium (plus a hill).
Its going to be a madhouse packed with angry Herd fans wanting revenge from 44-7. ....

Should be a fun time. Hopefully we'll both be undefeated heading into that game.
That would be fun.....2 ranked teams squaring off in the Battle of the Bell.
Who would have thought it was possible in the early 80's.....times have changed for sure.

It's amazing that the MAC has been able to keep a program like Ohio around when teams like UCF, Marshall, and Temple were quick to leave. Thank god that Ohio must be turning down all the other offers...we need to keep our flagship.

no way on earth did Marshall bring10K to Athens or did Rich and Rob credit them with that. The place only holds 24K, 10K would take up the ENTIRE home side. Even 8K is absurd, that would be 1 out of every 3 people in the stadium? no way.

Marshall Propaganda
When Ohio visited Huntington the crowd was 34,000, about 10k over their season average so one could make the same allegation that Ohio traveled big looking at that number.

There was 30,000 and change when OU played at Marshall last year. Marshall is way down in attendance due to 5 years of losing seasons. Early season night games are traditionally are well attended at Marshall.
OU has a nice job with its attendance, but I believe Peden stadium has the second smallest capacity in Division 1-A?

RE: OHIO FB: Sold out for the season?
There was NO WHERE CLOSE to 10,000 Marshall fans in Athens last game. The one corner that was designated for Marshall seats 2,500. Then there were some Marshall fans scattered throughout the stadium. 4,000 maybe. I really enjoy the Marshall game and hope the 2 schools sign a long term extension when this contract ends. Should play every year in every common sport.
Peden actually is not the smallest stadium. There are a couple smaller. I actually love Peden stadium and when the university does decide to increase capacity it needs to be reasonable and maintain a similar look. The main portion of the stadium was built in the 1920s which I think was similar to old Fairfield. Ohio University has always said it wants Peden Stadium to have a "Wrigley Field" feel to it. 30,000-32,000 and no more. Keep the hill for overflow.
We can crow about capacity but truth is Ohio's Convo and Marshall' Edwards stadium are a little to big for the fan bases. Marshall should have stopped at 35,000 and the Convo should be in the 11,000 range.

I have to disagree with that. I was there. probably 35-40% of it was Kelly Green. I'll see if I can find some pics.

I was there as well and your wrong. Have fun counting those fans. I am sure by the end of it over 20,000 of the fans there will have been Marshall fans. Are you the same Marshall fan that posted that half of the crowd at last years Ohio-Marshall basketball game in Athens were also wearing Kelley green? Amazing that Ohio will draw over 23,000 on average for every home Saturday home game except for the Marshall games when apparently 10,000 must stay at home. I thought Marshall was supposed to be Ohio's Super Bowl? Doesn't add up.

There is no way you were there. If you were, you would have seen the crowd. Even your own radio announcer made a comment about it in the post game. It doesn't matter. I'll be up there again this year and while I don't think the crowd will be as big this year due to the late start time, we'll still bring at least 6-8K to the game. Looking forward to it.

My friend I was there and you are wrong. I listened to the post game until it was over as I always do and never heard Russ or Robb make that comment.
I have been to every Ohio Marshall football game both home and away since the Herd returned to MAC and has since departed. Only once have I seen anything approaching half of Peden Stadium being full of Marshall fans and that was Marshall's first trip to Peden after returning to league. That year your claim would have been legit.

Cue the MORONS to come and defend his TROLL ASS, when this is just MORE EVIDENCE that he is a TROLL and that HE MAKES STUFF UP like I've been saying.

It seems like there's a lot of fun to be had in regards to Appalachian humor with this question:
Q. How do you tell a Marshall fan from an Ohio fan?

Its funny how some choose to rip on this guy for his unrealistic claims of 10,000 fans but some of these same people are so quick to defend the fans in the same color a state up with their unrealistic claims of 10,000.

RE: OHIO FB: Sold out for the season?
Ohio Countdown To SELLOUT...(Updated 8/25)
Tickets Remaining:
North Texas 702
Marshall 2302
Austin Peay 4745
Central Michigan 3466
Miami 3156
Kent State 5104
Massachusetts 5260
-I was able to count all of the seats online and Peden only has 21,000 seats in the stadium.....6,000 of which are assigned to the student section.
Therefore the regular ticket areas only have 15,000 seats to offer and with 5260 remaining for the UMass game that equals 9,740 season tickets.
-Counting the student tickets in with the sold season tickets wold amount to 15,740 combined season tickets sold.
-Ohio still has quite a ways to go before it matches the 14-15k season ticket mark that Marshall makes annually. The program could be there though with 3-4 more years of quality football, IMO.
