A drunk-driving checkpoint will be held somewhere in Colerain Township Friday night.

The Hamilton County OVI Task Force will announce the time and location Friday morning.

Most operations are held on main thoroughfares and during the hours of 9 p.m. and 2 a.m. Patrols also are usually stepped up in the area.

Get used to the checkpoints. There’s going to be more in the coming weeks as local law enforcement agencies join a national crackdown on intoxicated drivers.

More than 60 agencies across Ohio, Kentucky and Indiana are taking part in “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over,” a high-visibility enforcement effort that begins Friday and runs through Labor Day weekend with around-the-clock increased patrols.

Nearly one-third of the fatalities in motor vehicle traffic crashes involved a driver or motorcycle rider with a blood alcohol level above the legal limit – an average of one fatality every 48 minutes, according to Cincinnati police.
