RE: 2014 Basketball Recruits
Over the weekend ODU offered Isiah Blackmon (2015) and Riak Bol (JUCO, 2014).

It is Blackmon's first offer, Bol has a lot of interest in ODU and holds an offer from Hawaii with interest from Washington State and Nebraska-Omaha

Anybody ever hear of Manute Bol? Apparently Riak Bol is related to Manute but how so I couldn't find anywhere. Riak missed his senior year of high school due to a compound fracture to his lower leg. Bol was one of the top prospects in the state of Nebraska and was being pursued by the Cornhuskers but the injury caused them and other schools to back off. The 6-10 Bol is currently attending Central Communituy College in Columbus, OH.

A shot blocker like Bol allows you to be better offensively because you can put four skilled players on the floor at the same time with Bol and be more aggressive defensively.

Good catch, more then likely he is Manute's son. Manute has 10 children, his middle child is named Bol Bol and is one of the best players in his class (entering HS this year)

Riak Bol's stats: 12 PPG, 10 RPG, 1.5 BPG
Best game: 33 pts, 17 rebs, 2 BLK

RE: 2014 Basketball Recruits
I really like the sound of some of these recruits. Both junior college, and high school prospects.

As for VCU, they have a top 20 program now. End of story. I wouldn't get too caught up in what's going on there. Old Dominion was neck and neck with them not long ago. Now it's just about stopping the bleeding. One step at a time. It will only take 1 good year to pump the life back into this program. I'm confident we are about to get back on track.

Go Monarchs.

Agreed. VCU has a top 20 program and Shaka is capitalizing. We had a 5 year stretch ending a couple years ago where we were at least a top 40 program. Blaine did not capitalize. We need a solid recruiting class that overachieves (think the Finney class) and a little luck before we get our chance again. When Shaka gets brought in by an elite program or the NBA, VCU will likely not be able to maintain it. I also think the code for beating "Havoc" has been cracked at the BCS level and it will be very difficult to make another deep run with that style. With their recruiting, they'll continue to be a tournament team and fringe top 25, but I don't see them winning a lot of games against higher level BCS programs going forward.

Our staff has 1 month to show they can recruit. They have been together for over 5 months now hitting the recruiting trail. The results should start showing themselves soon. If not.....

RE: 2014 Basketball Recruits
You're right, Mr. Big, 30 days -- starting NOW!

If not... we can them . . . even though they won't have coached their first game together . . .
even though they might be involved with some kids who don't plan to make their decision within the next 30 days. . .

Yup, let's set an arbitrary date by which they must prove themselves to us, or else they should feel our wrath.

I'm with you all the way. Tick tick tick tick tick tick tick. . . hear that, Jeff?

I hope you're kidding. You can't recruit in one summer, especially without having coached a single game.

RE: 2014 Basketball Recruits
No I am not kidding...Most good players make their selections during the early signing period. This staff has got to show now that they can recruit quality players. If not...it does not bode well in my book regardless of if they can Coach or not. They are all highly regarded coaches. They have to show they are highly regarded recruiters now !! Good players make coaches look good.....period. We have plenty of PT and spots open. It is all about selling a vision and goal.

This attitude kinda reminds me of Dennis Green," They are who we thought they were and we let them off the hook." Only time will tell and they will get more than a couple of months.

Mr. Big: I hope you're right and they bring in exactly what they need to start a quick turnaround -- immediately.
