I'm surprised Penn State is so low.
Perhaps the recent scandal has hurt sales.
I would have expected FSU to be a little higher as well.

They don't license through IMG. Here's the list of schools that do.
Edit: Much better list http://www.clc.com/Clients.aspx

No Iowa either. They would be very high up on that list as well.

Really? My guess is that they would be in the 25-30 range. You guys have been pretty down recently and it looks like recent success does impact this list.
Surprised ECU is so low with their "rabid" fan base. VT is a little lower than I thought they would be as well. I look at VT as WVUs equal in almost everything

before the scandal they were 10th
in a 2 year period they drop from 10th to 12 then from 12th to 19th
thats a pretty big drop

A large number of octogenarians in nursing homes surely must spend all of their Social Security checks on ND gear.
That is the only reasonable explanation for ND being #3 on this list.
As several have said on these boards, ND has no fans, they are hard to find and they are all senior citizens. :)

Not in Louisville, Kentucky, Indianapolis , Indiana or Cincinnati, Ohio, where Notre Dame is followed by many.

I can understand why you might think that but you really have to understand the Hawkeye Nation in order to know just how much merchandise they purchase.
Look at the Wall Street Journal's latest evaluation. Iowa was ranked 11th. Other Big Ten folks understand how strong Iowa is in this regard but outside of that, everyone else really doesn't understand. Iowa is one of the strongest selling brands in the Big Ten and their numbers aren't as dictated by success as most school's are.

I am absolutely sure that Terry was being his usual sarcastic self in that way in which he loves to respond and taunt folks that think Notre Dame athletics are on the decline in terms of fan following across the nation.
Sometimes it irritates me a little the way he goes about it but this attempt was spot on bullseye.
Well said Terry. I laughed.

I'd concur that Iowa sells a ton of apparel. They're probably like the Big Ten version of Arkansas or South Carolina in relation to this list: they're not necessarily the most sexy national brand name, but their alumni base and home state have a ton of rabid fans that will spend money on Hawkeye products.

It certainly helps that Iowa goes with the ever popular colors of Black and Yellow (Gold). That color combination sells and wears well.

I know this was tongue in cheek but I was surprised Notre Dame wasn't at least one spot higher.
They have tons of fans in the northern panhandle of WV.

The tale back home in the Pittsburgh area is that the Steelers were asked and granted permission to Iowa to use or continue to use those.
Is that a folk tale or does it have a basis in fact? I have heard that for quite a long time from a number of different people.
