Big 12 Rivalries. Did we lose our best ones?
http://espn.go.com/blog/big12/post/_/id/...-rivalries

What do you think? Will the current Big 12 teams continue to forge better rivalries than the previous ones of the conference that are gone now?

I think Baylor vs TCU will continue to grow as a rivalry and it seems kinda funny to say that since the series is over 100 years old and almost deadlocked. For some reason I also think that WVU vs OU will turn into a heated rivalry. K St. vs Texas should already be one.

I think that competition will breed new rivalries. Sure, we lost the Missouri rivalry, but we still have our in-state rivals in KSU with which to contend, and while those like ESPN pundits may bemoan the end of the Border War, we're not that concerned about it.

KU and UT had started to develop a decent basketball rivalry - for several years, we were both contending for conference titles, and there were several good games.

Like you mentioned, the KSU/UT football rivalry is heating up. We'll see how long that holds out, partly because Snyder is 73 and can't coach forever (although he may in fact be a cyborg), and partly because UT may adjust. I don't know how much play it got in Texas, but KSU made up some t-shirts that said something like "Texas State Champions" since they'd done well against Texas schools. One thing about Snyder is that his work ethic and organization make him very formidable in the regular season where you have to play week-to-week, but his bowl record shows where other teams can catch up through having overall superior talent when they also have a lot of time to prepare.

As an old Big 8 guy, the rivalry I miss the most is OU/Nebraska - but that's been dead since the Big 12 formed and the divisional setup was done without any protected crossover games.

What used to be sad was how much red would be in Memorial Stadium when Nebraska came to town. I'm just glad I got to see us hammer them good the last time I saw them play, because we were on the short end of far too many 70-3 type games over the years.
