Forget About the Houston Bowl-SEC vs Big-12
Aresco can stop mentioning that bowl (don't know why he ever did). As expected, the bowl will be SEC vs Big-12. Mark Berman, is the best sports reporter in the city. If he's going with the story, its a good bet its accurate.

HOUSTON (FOX 26) -
FOX 26 Sports has learned officials of the Texas Bowl, formerly known as the Meineke Car Care Bowl of Texas, are expected to announce on Monday that in 2014 the game will feature teams from the Big 12 and the SEC at Reliant Stadium.

Just for 2014. I actually think that is more telling because they didn't announce a multi-year contract. Seems like after 2014 is still to be determined.

I don't think anybody here expected us to land that bowl. And Aresco was vague enough not to make it seem probable. On to next.

Exactly. I always thought it was silly to mention it at all. The only real significance is that the door has now closed on pretty much the last viable #1 bowl option for the AAC. It will be more of a buffet of similar bowls with no real standout game. I really thought we could pull off landing a single showcase game, but apparently it is simply not meant to be.

None of us were expecting this bowl. We're expecting the Armed Forces Bowl.

Agreed. The quest for a #1 bowl is over. Now we have to fall back and concentrate on getting as many bowls against the P5 as possible. I'm hoping for 5.

How about we have a bowl called The Preparation H Aresco Couldn't Pull His Head out of His A$# Bowl featuring AAC vs a high school team....

I agree. We need to lock up at least 4 and hopefully 5 and depending how it shakes out, send our #1 to the bowl with the highest rated opponent.

Maybe something like this if we are lucky.

Armed Forces vs Big 10/??
Military vs ACC 7-9
Independence vs ACC 7-9
Birmingham vs SEC 9
Miami vs ??? Not sure who is left to fill this one. PAC 12 #8 when they can fill it. MWC 2-3 when they can't??

I still think one of the best opponents we can hope to get is against the MWC which is why we should be trying to get at the very least our #2 teams to face each other.

I thought the hunt for a #1 bowl was over when Aresco (or a media report) said our champ would float to the best available bowl.

The last interview i heard he was still holding out hope that the Liiberty and Houston might be AAC destinations--but like you, I do remember him talking about floating the #1. I think he was just talking options. Looks like the floating option will probably be the last option standing.

Exactly what do you think he has to sell at this point. We do not have any elite football programs, Hell we don't have any top 25 programs to sell. People here like to knock the ACC, but bottom line the ACC has at least 8 or 9 schools that any bowl would love before they take anyone from the AAC.

The AAC does not have any FSU, UM, Clemson, Ga Tech, ND, VTech, NC, NC states to sell. We want better bowls, then we better take a couple of the current schools and elevate them to top 30 programs.

Why did Aresco even mention this bowl as a possibility? Hell at this point he needs to actually make the bowl in Miami a reality and not worry about the rest of his failures.

Too bad, would have been a fantastic 'get' for the AAC. But appears the 5 will not let us have any of those.

Huh? No one is talking about playing top P5 teams, at this point I think fans are hoping to send our champion to play the 4/5 best team from the ACC or B12 and the 6-7 best SEC/B10.

Doesn't look like that's going to happen. The best opponent likely on tap for us is possibly the #7 AAC (and that could range from the #7 to the #10 in any given year). We will have several games vs the P5, but all our P5 opponenets will be of the 7-5 or 6-6 variety.

I think that's more clumsy syntax than indicative of a one year deal. Here is Bermans tweet, that puts it a little differently.
