Think about the non-nfl players.....our all time leading tackler D.B., Chris Graham, Chris Michael, Jeremy Williams, Chris Hobbs, Charles KIng, on defense.
We started like 5 seniors on our offensive line and one pro. I love me some Doc Holliday.........but thinking about DeAngelo on that team makes my mind explode.
A Lou Groza award winner, a great punter, and to top it off Bert56.
Tim Rose was money at D.C. That year.
It was so wierd, in practice I thought Stobart had some good plays. But in games he did some wierd things. I remember Matthews rolling out a lot in games....especially going to his right, and he was left handed. I was just thinking, why on earth don't you leave him in the pocket.
In the Louisville game we were ahead 9-0 at half. I wish we had been a little more agressive in that first half, and I think we could have opened it up. But of course that's easy to say.
Rose was offered the job when Stobart was let go - he declined it. I remember it having something to do with his loyalty to Stobart. I wonder where the program would have been with Rose as the HC instead of Rip.

Not a good career move when you turn down a D-1 head job. What's that former Ole Miss assistant that kept turning down jobs? I think both he and Rose are now in witness protection.

Noel Mazzone ? I think he turned down our job too.
Rose was a great coordinator from what I saw and had very good enthusiasm. I always thought Stobart should have called him and make him take it. Maybe he did, but I doubt it.

I remember that brawl like it was yesterday. I also have great memories of taking the train down to New Orleans where we smoked Tulane.
I also remember the next year, I think, if we just take care of ECU we go to the Liberty Bowl and we show up flat, the crowd and the team and get drubbed.
that was 1994
Right, in 93 we spanked the Bulldogs in Starkville.
Something like 28-0 and we never looked back..won 45-35 IIRC. First game as a member of the MSOTS.

I remember thinking that it was odd at the time that he would turn down the job. You have to wonder who might have been in his ear. And you never know who he would have brought in to coordinate the offense. Of course, a lot of us think Lacewell should have been the choice before Stobart and possibly again when Rip came in.

So 15-20 years later and he's still waiting on the right job?
I remember being at a wedding/reception that was the same night as a Ole Miss game that was being televised. One of the men at the party, a prominent Tiger booster, nodded toward the tv and in reference to Mazzone said, "there's your next coach, right there." This was while Rip was HC.

hugly heavy on junior college guys. when stobart left, he took a huge senior class with him and left very little in experience and numbers for scherer.
Okay appreciate that. You should be the offical UofM sports historian.
