RE: College Basketball Countdown
I'm going to go with PC at #76.

and look, I'm right :)

Providence to me is going to be really interesting. They've lost SO much this year. It feels like it's going to be Dunn and then 4 guys. The other 4 guys they had with Dunn averaged 2 points per game fewer combined than Dunn did. I think PC gets a TON of junk defenses thrown against them.

And it's not just that...
Scoring defense- last year they were #4 in the conference at 65.5. That's not happening this year. Also more importantly rebound margin. They were +4 last year- #2 in conference and #56 in the country. That's not happening with the lack of frontcourt guys they have this year.. That's going to kill fast break chances and force them into more of a half court game. Also you wonder how much rust Bullock is going to have after not playing for 2 years. I think it's a 17-14 type team and like they have- #7 in the conference. I love Cooley as a coach- but this year is a brutal combo IMO.

Dunn is a special player. He definitely has the potential to elevate the game of those around him. However, it will be a gauntlet for him as teams constantly throw their best defenders night after night at him, forcing him to get other players to beat them. I'm glad he came back.

RE: College Basketball Countdown
was looking more at Ken Pom....

Offensive rebounding last year- PC got offensive rebounds 35% of the time overall, #42 in the country. In conference games also 35%- #2 in the conference. PC was the 7th tallest team in the country last year. All of that is gone just about. That IMO is going to impact Providence considerably. Also, by how good of a rebounding team PC was, that slowed down the opponents fast break chances. That changes this year.

I'm glad Dunn came back because w/o him, PC wouldn't even be a 10 win team probably.

RE: College Basketball Countdown
well down to #71 with no more Big East teams....

With 15 tourney teams already posted, we are down to 53 teams left to get in the tourney. So the next team slated for the NIT would be the 17th team out of the tourney.

Could make for great games if the conference is as strong as this projection would seem to indicate. Could also make it difficult to get 6 teams in if they are knocking each other out. Will need a solid nonconference record out of the group.

Yeah, especially given 7 and 8 are still going to win 6-8 conference games each and be a major thorn in the side of other BE teams. And even 9-10(I'm assuming Seton Hall/DePaul) are no pushovers either.

RE: College Basketball Countdown
I literally have no expectations this year for Marquette. I just hope that the freshmen improve over the course of the season, Wojo continues to develop the young players like Cohen/Wilson/Johnson/Fisher and that we have an opportunity to get into the dance. Our OOC schedule is admittedly terrible, but hopefully they win enough of those games to give these kids confidence. It cannot be understated that the entire team has not experienced winning before. All remnants of our Elite 8 are gone.

Last two years have been a struggle to watch - but the future is very bright.

RE: College Basketball Countdown
well they are up to 67 now... no more Big East schools....

they have 17 tourney teams in now. So 51 to go. So next one on the list would be the 15th team out.

What was interesting was they have VCU as #69. I don't know that I expect that much of a drop off this year to where they would be 16th team out of the tourney.

RE: College Basketball Countdown
Another real questionable team imo- UConn at #66. I'd be shocked if UConn is that low this year with all the moves they've made.
