Can we expect a Chip Kelly type legacy will happen with Bobby Wilder?
Just had a though about Chip Kelly's success and his climb to the NFL as head coach, and couldnt help to think, will this happen with Coach Wilder, him leaving, which would result in ODU having to find someone to run the football program to the standard we expect.

I look at Chip's success at Oregon, and how he manged to run the spread offense, and even have it considered one of the best offense formations, as well as one that is difficult to defend in division 1 football.

Then, there is ironically the fact that both guys are from the NE. Chip being from NH, and Bobby from Maine. It seems as though, these guys have the spread offense down packed. In addition, that offense just may have a real breakthrough in the NFL. However, some teams have ran the spread on the pro level before Chip, but not how Oregon ran it. I wouldnt imagine Chip to erase his whole game plan that manage to elevate him to the success he has had at Oregon.

What I am saying is, if Bobby has as much success with this offense as Oregon has, yea, we would probably get to playing BCS football, but we would eventually lose Bobby to either a larger school that pays well, or even the NFL. Just my thoughts. What do you guys think?

I do think we are moving to a more spread based running attack, especially if we can add Vincent Lowe to Ray Lawry and Isaiah Harper. ODU plays at a fast pace, as do other teams. I'm guessing they are going to try and turn it up a few notches in preparation for ECU and Maryland.

Would Coach Wilder leave to replace Bill Belichick?........is that the type of opportunity to lure him away? Maybe. Yet, he has a 5 min commute to the office now........and with continued success he may be voted into political office before that happens.

No bobby wilder leaves for some place like sc or atm or vandy. A program doing okay. But could do better and no off field issues. The million bucks to put it in context... a uf alumni paid 10mil to have the road in front of the stadium tarred with something special to make it turn orange in the heat. A mil buyout is small change for a big program.

I like him and we have done well but I'm not ready to have a statue for him yet..what we do when we play fbs is the decision tool for me. Fcs is one thing fbs clock cleaning is another. I love odu football but. 4 and 29th in fbs is a lost game.

A lot of work to be done before this ever happens.

He is gonna stay. This is his mountain, he has built it and he plans on climbing it and planting his flag at the top.

If he is successful, he isn't staying long for $500k... not when he can go to an ACC or middling BCS school for triple that or more.

He has to prove himself at FBS first! Everybody loves the young, energetic coaches right now. However, those coaches have huge success on the big stage (Chip Kelly, Brad Stevens, Anthony Grant, Shaka Smart, etc).... I dont think Wilder gets offered anything. Wilder might have as much success with this offense as Oregon did, but it WONT be against the same type of competition as Oregon faced...thats the biggest difference right now. Wilder needs to build his legacy...build that empire literally from the ground up

Wilder is all about building this mountain. This is a situation most coaches never get.

Don't forget he essentially spent 20 years at Maine if you count his quarterback years.

I'd rather run the risk of him leaving vs. having a coach that nobody wants.

It's fun to talk about, but I think we should pump the brakes on all of this TH/BW NFL stuff.

As for BW's replacement (because he will leave one day), his name is Ron Whitcomb.

Depends, does Selig have any close friends that are also football coaches? I'd say if he does, they have a leg up on the job.

Not to get totally off topic but I must know more about this. Where did you see this?

Besides, it just a little fun talk.

Al Groh will surely be available, if not there's always Tom O'Brien since we are where UVA wash ups go to pasture.

Tom O'Brien is literally the worst coach possible for ODU.

Wait, what?

I feel I would have heard about this or seen it on TV and I can't track it down with a quick google search.

Also, couldn't one just paint it orange and save millions?
