Gatlin's Barbecue - Please VOTE!!!!
The Comical is having an on-line poll for best Houston barbecue. Some of the other locations are getting people to stuff the ballot box. As a result, Gatlin's is way behind at 12%. I just found out about it today, and the last day to vote is this Wednesday, August 7. I'm hoping we Owls can make a difference.

Here is the link:

I have nothing to do with Gatlin's except I think it's the best in Houston, and I want to support a fellow Owl.

RE: Gatlin's Barbecue - Please VOTE!!!!
When I saw this story about noon or so, there were 599 votes cast in toto and Gatlin's was at 12%. Now there are more than 8,700 total votes, and our favorite has sunk to 9%. We've got a lot of work to do to win this one, Owls.

Comical claims the vote was spammed and declared Goode Co the "winner".

You've got to be kidding. Nothing wrong with Goode Co, but IMO it doesn't compare with Gatlin's. My only gripe with Gatlin's is that they frequently run out of brisket and ribs at lunch hour.

'Lunch hour' at a really good Texas barbecue joint, like Gatlin's, starts about 10-10:30.

Unfortunately true due to the takeout demand...but does Gatlin's EVER have brisket or ribs available even for the early dinner crowd coming in at 5:00pm?

I went there once and it was closed due to being completely out of food.

I voted online and with my feet this week. It was crowded at lunch, but everyone was happy with their food.

This is not an unfrequent occurrence. I've gone there once for dinner at 5:30pm, and they had already closed for the day...and just this past Spring, and group of friends and I went there for lunch on the Friday of Memorial Day weekend, and they all they had left at 12:00noon (we arrived and started waiting in line at 11:30am) was pulled pork and chicken (already out of brisket and ribs). I could be wrong, but IMO the big problem (for us; not for them) is that their catering and takeout business seems to get priority over those waiting in line.
