ACC TV channel’s launch not basic cable (Link)
From the article:
Bubba Cunningham, UNC AD:
Cunningham doesn’t know what technology he might be using in a few years. But he’s confident that whatever he has, there’s likely to be ACC content available for viewing on it. He’s not alone in his optimism.
Duke athletics director Kevin White:
“I would be very surprised if a channel won’t happen,” White said recently. “And quite frankly, I’m convinced that it will occur.”

Former ND Assistant AD and AD, respectively
Lots of interpersonal ND connections within the ACC.

That's really not what you want to hear. We're 3 years stuck behind the 8-ball trying to get where the SEC and Pac-12 are now. And getting carriage is not going to get any easier.

That's why I've been thinking that the ACC needs a different business model for its network - perhaps a direction subscription like NetFlix (no middle man, just pure a-la-carte pay-as-you-go). Advantages:
1) instead of $0.80 per subscriber, more like $8.00 per month. Best way to compete if you only get 1/10th the subscribers
2) other networks won't be available that way, so this would appeal to many customers. It's practically impossible to both force basic cable AND offer a-la-carte at the same time... so get ahead of the curve.

If the ACC Channel were like Netflix and cost $8.00 per month, I would pay that to be able to watch ND baseball games alone.

I have felt a dedicated fully digital 24/7 channels was always the best model for the acc. Sell it to the Netflix and hulus of the world and offer it a a pay subscriber channel .

There are 100 million people (50 million households) in the ACC footprint. How many of those would pay $8/month ($96/year)? Let's say it's only 1 million... that works out to over $6 M / yr for each school.
And since those are all voluntary subscribers, that business model is solid.

Jack Swarbrick has been talking about a digital Irish Network for a few years now.

I didn't read the article (which is always dangerous), but going off the two quotes, I think that they are saying that the ACC will continue to have a presence on a variety of media, and that we will have a network. Essentially it will be "business as usual + network," not "we will have a network, but it won't be on basic."
