Why I am MWC's and Big East's Biggest Fan
Because it is in my own best interests.
When the MWC signed on with CSTV, I immediately became the biggest fan of MWC and for this CSTV effort to succeed. I knew that if MWC/CSTV succeeded, that would probably mean success for CUSA. And it did!
Now, I am Big East's biggest fan and hope the current BE leaderships plans are met. If they are (and it appears so), then CUSA is left undisturbed and can go forth to build a better conference. I am not in nor do I do the "Win/Lose" analysis. That is, I want to win; therefore you must lose. Rather, if BE wins, so will CUSA. That's a win/win situation for everyone, both CUSA and BE.
The leadership's plan for BE is succeeding. BCS status has been held, new bowl agreements negotiated, and BE basketball tv viewership is up 47%. Contrary to what far too many BE fans on this board state, expanding and taking a CUSA team is a sign of weakness of the BE. I would say the more CUSA teams BE takes, that is a sign of more and more BE football weakness. Because of its newfound strength, BE leadership, according to that Syracuse student newspaper article, is going to "tweak" its football scheduling problem...first, by trying to set up a limited alliance. My guess is if that doesn't work, then BE will add a football only school.
The second thing that drives me nuts is the statement that the BE football only schools are being held back; the correct strategy is to use the basketball tc contract of the BE football schools...to enhance the BE football contract...and dump the basketball only schools. This statement is totally absurb, totally speculative, and totally without foundation. My guess is some BE fans are frustrated with their current tv contract and appearnaces....and the basketball only schools make a good whipping boy. It's not my fault! Thus repeating a battle cry I have heard in this crazy mixed up city of Washington, DC among politicians. It's not my fault!
In response to my posts, many BE fans have cited entrance fees, tv contracts and money, bowl agreements, and other "documents" to argue against me. Nonsense!
How about that "document" where existing BE schools sued the ACC for damages? Damages! Get that document out and read it. That probably explains, far better than I, why maybe BE football tv contract is now (for time being) not as good as some BE fans wish it was.
There simply is no other choice but to keep plugging away. But I evny you in BE. My guess is you can take that strong basketball exposure and 47% increased basketball ratings....along with continued football improvement....to get BE football where you want it.
In CUSA, we have a heavy task to do and don't have the good basketball to build upon. But thank goodness BE's success now makes our job easier as we can continue to build our teams and conference.
