RE: Men's Basketball Schedule Released
Oh, Georgia State is going to be a marginal top 100 RPI team. They return RJ Hunter and bring in Ryan Harrow along with a full year of Ron Hunter's relentless style. They should tear us a new one.

First road game is two months into the season. But it's at VCU!
Ironically the former CAA games are among the most difficult on the schedule.
Where's JMU?
Harrisonburg, but that's not important right now.
My guess is 10 wins -- Howard, NC Central, Georgia Southern, Presbyterian, Rice, Florida International, Marshall, UNC Wilmington and two from this list: UTSA, William & Mary, Tulane, one of the ECU games, North Texas.
.500 is a nice goal but probably not terribly likely, barring a coaching miracle or Charles the Labralion doing his Air Bud impression.

I'll have wait to see who is playing on our team before I attempt any predictions.

RE: Men's Basketball Schedule Released
I made 3 predictions and will somehow be wrong on all of them:
Completely Unfair and Unrealistic Prediction: 20-14 NIT
ODU buys into Jeff Jones “system”, Donte Hill and Trey Freeman receive their waivers, Alassane Kah gets cleared and Richard Ross, Dimitri Batten, Keenan Palmore and Aaron Bacote thrive in a new offensive friendly system.
The sky has fallen Prediction: 6-26
None of the above pans out, ODU loses early home games to sub 300 RPI competition and can’t find a way to beat middle of the road CUSA teams at home.
My July 30th Prediction: 16-17 CUSA Quarters
This is subject to change. I do feel the team can wildly outperform these expectations but they need to catch some good breaks while maintaining health and developing chemistry.

I'll lean more towards your 3rd option, especially pending the health and chemistry aspects. I'm still not holding my breathe on Hill. This last appeal has the smell of ODU just trying to do right by the kid and going down every avenue...but it'll be in vain. The NCAA has made its decision (regardless of what we think of it) and us reaching for a different decision in the 4th appeal is not realistic.
As for Kah, don't count on it. He will not be wearing an ODU jersey...at least not for this season.

Agreed.
How can we start predictions without even a roster?

I don't even see ten wins. If JJ can get to double digits this season I will be more optimistic about him. I would love a winning record next year, but this season will be tough.

I think we should spend all year getting Freeman (assuming he qualifies) buckets of points. Feed him the ball, and get him averaging 20+ points. Seems like it's been a while since anyone on ODU got there.

What is Alumni Weekend in late January for that Tulane game?

Nobody averaged 20 in the Blaine Taylor era. Not even Alex in his junior year, which was probably the best single year any of his players had (going by only memory).

Is Freeman capable of this in CUSA play? Everyone is pretty high on him. I hope they are right, but I don't understand how he ended up at Campbell to begin with. (Then again, Campbell did beat VMI at home.)

District bias. Kind of like Snowden an Bazemore for that matter, he was largely ignored for no other reason than he played high school against weak competition. There are so many guards out there, nobody needs to take a chance on one. These diamonds in the rough are the reason a team like Murray State can pop up and be very good every once in awhile. I don't know if he'll get 20 PPG, it kind of depends on what role Jones gives him, but I do think he is capable. I also think Batten and Ross are capable. We didn't see it much during the Blaine Taylor era, but typically a team has a primary go to guy and that guy will usually average over 15 PPG.

If I remember correctly, he put up some of his best numbers against the toughest teams on their schedule last season including 17 pts against both Cincinnati & Gonzaga. He also played 30-35 minutes a game last season, which would never have happened under BT. He should match up pretty well against CUSA competition.
I do like the Jr's on this team, between Ross, Freeman, & Batten, I just wish we had a solid big as well.
