RE: Dip's in trouble
The release was more a political decision by Iran than anything Reagon did.
But yeah, Carter was weak, and stupid too.
When he came into office he found out the US had been paying off the tribal Chieftons in the Middle East for decades. That's how they do business over there, and paying them is cheaper than fighting them. Carter, in a fit of righteousness, stopped that practice against all good advice, and that is when everything went to hell.

RE: Dip's in trouble
You judge a president on results. Carter was seen as weak and incompetent by the Iranians. He tried to get the hostages out and that was a terrible debacle. Clearly the Iranians knew Reagan meant business. The day he gets into office they released all the hostages. You guys can dance around and try and soft peddle the why's of it, but the results speak for themselves.

RE: Dip's in trouble
The Iranians waiting for Reagan to take office before releasing the hostages had nothing to do with Reagan. The Iranians did it to further insult Carter. Just another poke in the eye.

Either that or just suck up to Reagan.
I don't think the Iranians scare that much.

Dip your theory that the Iranians thought Reagan was a 'scary cowboy' to quote some European sources, holds less water than a high school teacher telling me that the TOW missile sales were a pay off that vice pres Bush arranged to get the hostages released in January instead of October like Carter had arranged for thus costing Carter the election.

I'm a Dem but honestly Carter was a better peanut farmer than President.
I admire his after prez lifestyle for the most part but his presidency was grim.
