Only thing I didn't like was that he didn't commit to MTSU becoming a specific rival for the BOTB & I've never really heard him say any one team as a rival. I think you need to have something (our version of Iron/Egg Bowl, Red River Shootout, etc) to help build fan interest around. Not that I don't mind his 1 team each week replies.

I agree. But, I do like how he thinks about just taking it one game at a time. I know it's coach talk, but I think we're going to start winning.

He is probably aware that we won't be in the same division as MT. It'll be hard to have a heated rivalry if we don't play every year.

What a breath of fresh air he is for UAB. Keep up the spirit and keep the team striving to improve, with great leadership. Success is within our reach this year.

So true!! We are still striving to get used to having two men's sport head coaches who have "broken the mold" to which we had become accustomed. Imagine -- having 5 players signed for BB months before the 2013-14 season and quality FB players committing for 2014 in July 2013. This is heady stuff compared to "the old days".

I also feel comfortable with Norton as women's bb coach.

When you add in Shoop, Marla, & a few of the others, it seems like our coaching staffs as a whole are to our liking.

Mike Getman is the man.

Battle of the Bones should be retired. You don't just insert another team. Besides we no longer have the rack.

And for the 100th time, you don't designate a rival. It develops over time.

But the Battle of the Bones was already a manufactured rivalry.

I would say Memphis was already a rival before the Bones. The bones thing did nothing to intensify the rivalry. Most people in Memphis just scoffed at he Ribs thing, but couldn't resist the chance to BBQ.

That's like inserting Michigan State into the Ohio and Michigan rivalry. Besides like it was said, you can't restart a rivalry when someone else has walked off with the trophy. Just let things develop on their own.
Personally, I think Troy is developing into a great rivalry game along with Southern Miss.

There is no one I'd rather beat than Southern Miss, not in conference. Losing to Troy sticks in my craw though, and while I wouldn't call it a rivalry game exactly, I can't stand listening to them if they do win.

That makes it sound like the beginnings of a "rivalry game" to me. Maybe we can come up with an appropriate "trophy" to exchange for that game as well. Maybe a Thomas Jefferson-Zebulon Pike Trophy with busts of the two figures back to back (after all, Jefferson sent Pike out to explore in the LA Purchase Territory at the same time as he sent Lewis and Clark).

I would not get too excited as I doubt we renew the basketball and football series (Troy) after this year per Brian Mackin. If we do football again I seriously doubt basketball will be included. They are a two for one opponent at best. They should be a buy game.

RE: One-on-One with McGee at Media Day
we have two rivals: usm & troy

memphis thought they were our rival and vice versa but we got the games confused. Then, they up and left to join their fellow douchebags. Then, we woke up, didn't bother going fishing, made a cuppa tea and got on with our lives.
