The State & the Jets/Giants should see the beniefits of having the roof, they can rent out the stadium for Final 4s and the Big Appel bowl. Also the stadium can be used when NYC host the goodwill games again.
Realisticly the Big Apple bowl is really the only bowl majority of this conference can really travel to ( 20K fans+).
Do you realize the proposed stadium is in NEW JERSEY! Albany will not pay for it! The stadium in Manhattan is dead.

A new years day bowl in NYC would be great. You spend New Years eve in times square and then follow it up with the Bowl game. The game has so much potential.
I'd Like to see Big East teams play Notre Dame/Big 10 in this bowl too
That the big reason I said it could be huge. But only if they do it right. The sponsors are already in the city, as are millions of potential Big East sports fans. All they need to do is get a proper stadium built, line up the sponsors, and bring the best competition they can get into the bowl game.
This could end up being an alternate location for any bowl games relocated due to natural disasters too. Atlanta was really stressed by the Sugar Bowl relocation. New York could handle it without blinking. What other city has the capability of housing so many incoming fans without blinking? Where else can you find so much variety in reach? Where else should the Big East's annual banquet be? In basketball or football, the Big East's post season should include a trip to the Big Apple. It's a natural fit.

BE VS. B10 would be the most logical. I'd prefer ND had no part of this arrangement as they are not a BE team.

What are the odds?
What are the odds that Notre Dame would not be involved in a bowl game in the New York/New Jersey metropolitian area?
Don't forget that ND is working on neutral site games to be played in the Meadowlands. It would seem an easy working transition with the new stadium authority to discuss a bowl tie in as well.

What is DestiNY?
No offense but I can't see more than a couple hundred people wanting to travel to Syracuse in late December. At least Toronto has lots of other stuff going on in the city.

It is a new mall and entertainment complex that would make it the largest mall complex in the world, surpassing the Mall of America in Bloomington Minn. If it does ever get completed, the bolded part of your post would be irrelevant as this mall will also have an indoor amusement park and other attractions that will pull folks in from many nearby states. I have been following this story for years now, so I dont know if it will get built, especially since their is so much backbiting going on with it, although they have actually started on it.

Thanks for the answer. That would be a tourist draw I'm sure. Not the type of thing to interest me but I know females that have actually gone up to Minnesota with friends just to go the mall up there. Maybe for your regular season games even you'll have more opposing fans. Guys can drop the wife off at the mall on Friday and pick her up after the game on Saturday!
The real question regarding a bowl would be: Will the people of Syracuse pay to go see a game featuring say...Rutgers v. Northern Illinois? No small bowl will stay alive without local ticket sales.

I would think it could get 30,000 fans if 7-10,000 come in from outta town. Obviously it isn't the first choice but it could be an option five years down the road.

The rest of the State of New York is tired of funding NYC. Do you realize that 70% of the tax money for the entire state goes into support for NYC. Without the rest of the state, the city would be bankrupt. And the rest of the state is tired of bailing them out. I can't really say I blame them. It has been a long history of corruption and mismanagement within the NYC government. Not unlike most other large cities, but the biggest crooks tend to flock to the biggest cities.

I agree. Notre Dame has a big alumni following in the greater NYC area, and I think any bowl committee in the area would be foolish not to include the Irish in the possible selection process to tap into that wellspring of support.

I agree with you Terry. I think it would be wise for the BE to share that bowl with the ND. But I have a question for you. Since this is actually a BE arranged bowl, and the BE does not need ND to secure it, what are the odds that ND will get to keep all of the proceeds from this bowl all to themselves and not have to split it with the rest of the BE?

ND has always been involved in anything BE arranged in the past. Why would this be any different? By that time ND is probably going to be close to unbeatable (ugh!) and my thought is if they want in the arrangement, they'll be let in. I just don't see anything that points to the BE jettisoning ND in any way unless ND wants out themselves.

Big Ten isn't gonna trade their bowl lineup with anyone. Notre Dame would perfer a new Years day bowl, so its gonna be the MAC. MAC has large numbers of alumni, but are also Big Ten Alumni/fans. You get the Big Ten viewers with the MAC. Many households in the midwest hold degrees from both the MAC and the Big Ten.

every thing I have heard... is no dome no bowl... so it sounds to me like its a dead deal... if not... big 10, sec , ect will want no part of an ice bowl game. so sound like it should end up a near christmas bowl if they decided to go ahead with it.. then BE/MAC probably makes sense. big east 4 or 5 vs mac 3 might be a pretty good game.

I wouldn't neccessarily say that. A domed stadium is nice, but NYC could put together an attractive package for a bowl game. Hey, if they will go play on the blue turf in Idaho for a bowl game, why not have one in the open air in the greater New York area? Stupider things have happened.

The only way an open air Super Bowl would make money in NYC is if the Giants or Jets managed to make it. Otherwise, forget it.
