I'm sorry, the Big 12 and our TV partners have said thanks but NO THANKS.

Says the fan of a program that only remained relevant because of Texas politics. Just be thankful you're in the club, instead of scrounging for respect. Just be thankful to your big brother in Austin. Oh, sorry, did you just forget where you came from? That bustling metropolis of Lubbock? Interesting that you feel entitled to be so condescending given your point of origin.

fyi texas tech was 3rd in attendance among b12 schools this year and 29th among ncaa schools

We aren't talking about the present. Before the Big 12, TTU, TCU, Baylor and others had attendance problems. Big 12 gave TTU money and exposure to elevate. There IS NO argument about this. TTU Football has never outright won any conference they have been a member of, Border, SWC or Big 12 ever!
The point was and still is, be grateful to Bevo.
Looks like they have 8 in the Border

From 1976-1995, Tech averaged 11K more than UH. Baylor ( a small private school) averaged almost 7K more than UH. Yes, TCU struggled but I think they have fixed that problem.

RE: Big 12 Expansion Candidates
I have no idea where the conversation has gone thus far, not gonna read through it all but in my opinion the best two picks for the Big 12 based upon what they show they value, would be ECU and USF.

Air Force would also need to find a home for their other sports as the MWC doesn't currently allow its members to play football elsewhere. I believe AFA would consider football only in the XII if they could get into the MVC for other sports, but the MVC has said it isn't interested in the past.

And Wichita State stays in a conference that prefers Loyola over Air Force? Things that make you go hmmm. 05-stirthepot

Wichita State would gladly leave if given the opportunity. We weren't thrilled with the addition of Loyola but they do have some potential upside and more importantly, it saves the poor schools money by not having to travel. More importantly to the poor schools.

Sadly for us, there aren't any options at the moment. I think if we had the chance to join the Big East, we would. If either the MWC or AAC were willing to take nonfootball members, we'd go. But the Big East appears to want to remain private and I don't think the AAC has any interest in a nonfootball school. I heard a few rumblings from the MWC a while back that there could be consideration for doing so, but I think it was a long shot at best.

I wonder if the MVC would go to 12 and add AFA and Denver so teams could double up on their trips to Colorado.... We could do worse.

From 1980 on, after UT & ATM there was a gap, then BU & TT attendance wise, then another gap, then every other Texas school in the league.

BU & Tech had the most people showing up, invested more in facilities prior to the SWC folding, and also traveled better. That isn't to say that politics didn't get either/both in, they did. My point though is that if you had to pick 2 after UT/ATM left based on fanbase, support, and facility commitment it probably would have been the two of us anyway.

True as of 1994. 5 years earlier, UH was more competitive across the board than Tech or Baylor. But after Yeoman and Lewis retired they tanked. If it had happened 5 years earlier, Kansas St. probably would have been dumped and Houston included.
