Several Mississippi Players Fail to Meet NCAA Requirements
Aug 3, 12:03 AM (ET)
OXFORD, Miss. (AP) - When Mississippi football coach David Cutcliffe greets his 2004 squad next week, some members of the incoming class will not be reporting.
"We have several signees who failed to meet NCAA initial eligibility requirements," Cutcliffe said Monday. "Therefore, they will not be reporting with the rest of the team."
Cutcliffe said the signees not meeting NCAA initial eligibility requirements included wide receiver Tony Burks, defensive end Dion Gales, running back Lavarus Giles linebacker Peria Jerry, wide receiver Corey Kizer and defensive tackle Alton Pettway.

Sad but true, read it in the CA this morning. What is sad, tragic really, is these guys have blown a good scholarship.
Not just the loss to the team, but for themselves.
Makes me also wonder if the recruiters are taking a good look when fishing for recruits. You can recruit King Kong but if he can't spell cat you can't play him. I could say something derogatory about all the non-english speaking players Memphis has, but I won't, at least not yet! Too many Tigers mascots floating around from to many schools.

If that many players didn't qualify...then I would reply, it's no suprise...looks who's recruiting them...but then again, they would have all been red-shirted so, really it's no loss THIS year...

This year yeah! but what about next year? With recruiting like that , before long you will run out the cheerleaders in full pads.
