Austin Nichols Scouting Report
http://bustingbrackets.com/2013/07/11/au...g-profile/

From the Story

"If you haven’t noticed, most of the things listed as his weaknesses are things that Nichols can eliminate by working hard in practice and on his own time. If he really wants it, Nichols has the potential to be a truly special college player, one who can turn around a school on his own and make it a big name.
Nichols isn’t projected as a one year player and he might even stay three or four. His best comparison is someone like Tyler Hansbrough at UNC. He will become one of the most important Memphis Tigers and he will gain a lot of fans for his efforts and loyalty to the program."

I think Austin will be a great player for our program but this comment is a joke. No one player will make the U of Memphis a big name. We have been a big name for decades and will continue to be a big name in college basketball for decades to come.

I think what the writer was trying to convey is that this is a Keith Lee/Penny Hardaway type of player. One of those rare players that only come through maybe once or twice in a lifetime and really make some noise at the collegiate level. Lighten up Francis.

Imagine a Senior Nichols flanked up front by two Lawson brothers.

I really like the way Nichols' game is broken down in separate strength and weakness sections. I give this a grade of 'Good article.'

It is well written-as far as form goes.
However, Nichols is far from mechanical. He's always shown excellent footwork(at least for the last year or so), has a variety of post moves, and can stick the mid-range jumper.

The guy does make a great point about whether or not Austin can effectively compete against more athletic players(defense and being an effective scorer on the block).

So are officially nicknaming him "Wild Turkey"? If so, he will go down as having one of the coolest nicknames in College BBall.

He is a growing boy, so maybe he will grow beyond the paltry 6'11 Wingspan.

Wingspan
Geron Johnson 6'8
Derrick Rose 6'8
Tyreke Evans 6'11
Joey Dosey 7'2
Robert Dorsey 7'4

RE: Austin Nichols Scouting Report
Didn't mention his free throw shooting. Would be nice to have a big guy that could hit at about 80%, especially at crunch time.
