Soaking In The New Atmosphere (a question for Memphis Football Fans)
Well, hi there! Just thought I'd stop by to see how Tiger Nation was doing in the new surroundings of the AAC, what's the level of anticipation like for the upcoming football season? (I already know you guys/gals are firmly entrenched & ready for battle in basketball, goes without saying, of that I'm already confident)...I've yet to see your 2013 schedule, will take a run at that today when time allows. So, has fan interest in the football team increased, stayed about the same, or otherwise so far? And how about facilities? Has moving to a new conference generated interest/support in improving their resources to help them be more competitive and successful, to include an on-campus stadium for the Tigers? How much longer is their lease with the Liberty Bowl? Give me a holler, please, when you have time, just because you're gone, doesn't mean you're forgotten...

RE: Soaking In The New Atmosphere (a question for Memphis Football Fans)
Reasonable expectations are for slow but steady progress after reasonable success in the last 4 games of 2012. My personal opinion is that all new additions to the AAC will be surprised at the level of football played by the remaining members.
Because the new conference looks a lot like the old conference and I haven't seen a season ticket sales number, it's hard to gauge increased interest with the exception of playing the Cards (once) and Bearcats again.
Not sure why this would be on the smack board, unless you just put it there in anticipation. :)

Thank you for the response. And I didn't place it here, guess the mod gods assumed I was a troll and put it here on their own accord. I was just curious about the level of anticipation in the new conference, I'm guessing with most of the original BE members running away to form their own private sandbox, there may be an aura of letdown in Memphis about this...Thank you again, I appreciate your chiming in.

It's not what we signed up for...that said, in football we still have: Cincy, ECU, Tulsa, UCF, Navy, UConn, USF, etc...in hoops the American will feature: UConn, Cincy, Memphis, and Temple ruling the roost...but Tulsa, UCF, and USF have a lot of potential.
I like the AAC...but I wish we could have kept Louisville and the C7 around...c'est la vie!

Well put, my sentiments exactly. It's still an improvement considering how conference alignment jostled just about everything around.

It's an exciting time, from both a program and conference perspective.

Even though the questions were directed to Tiger fans, just gotta say I'm not sure why this is over here either as Matrix (in my experiences) has always been very respectful and complementary on the board. Valid questions. I expect some good things out of Memphis football (as long as its not at the expense of my Pirates). Winning cures a lot. The Tigers ended last year on a roll. A victory over Puke Duke next week is a good start.

Truthfully, I believe fans are more excited for the future than we have had in a long time. Believe it or not, football is loved in Memphis, however fans want to see a competitive team. It's not fun going to a game and watch your team get beat by 30-40 points. We haven't had much to cheer about since the days of Deangelo, but the memories are not forgotten. We slipped up when we brought Cal in here and basketball became the main entertainment and put football on the backburner.

Uh oh...
Yeah, as it turns out, this thread is in the right place... (ducks head in anticipation of oncoming shouting match)
