The key point and the most important part of this. Old Dominion must be fair and equal to all student athletes who apply to ODU.

+1.

Any criticism of the kid or suggestion that he's not ODU material isn't needed. I get defending the University, but please try and do so without disparaging a local recruit that desperately wanted to play here and is well respected.

RE: Snowden to Niagara
Guys, its fine and dandy that he's a good kid that wanted to go to ODU. I feel like I was a good kid and I would have loved nothing better than to play SG for ODU. But, I wasn't good enough. That's not bashing, it's the truth.

Being a good kid or wanting to play at ODU need to be put aside. Was he good enough to let in despite not meeting the min ODU standards?

The delay in hearing from ODU kept Snowden from pursuing other offers. Once word got out that he was still available, Niagara, Radford, Canisius and Delaware State quickly offered scholarships.

I've heard him interviewed a few times on the TM show and believe he is involved with AAU ball and the PIT. I don't know enough as to why he's influential at ODU. It doesn't seem that we ever landed big recruits under BT from the 757 (or elsewhere for that matter) so how does he help the program?

I understand people respect Boo - just unclear on the ODU connection.

I agree. Boo has never sent any of his "studs" our way. I think a very great player comes along in the 757 every so often. I have never considered this area a "hot bed" for basketball talent as it is for football and baseball.

For years I've heard from several ODU coaches that 757 HS coaches and the sainted Boo NEVER suggested to a 4* recruit that he go to ODU; but the 2*s and less "yeah you should go to ODU." They've considered ODU a second-class repository for their best-average kids and we're supposed to cower in fear because Norman "effing" Hassell is upset?

Go to hell, mister; there's plenty of fish in the sea. Don't need no under-educated 757 kids to win. There are 2*s n every corner of the globe.

Some of you so-called fans look for any excuse to run down the program and portray it in the worst possible light; you're what makes Tidewater "great."

This is a slam dunk post. I am tired of coaches complaining about us not giving their 2* recruits a scholarship but their 3* and above recruits are too good for ODU. Boo is the worst of them all. I am tired of the leftovers and scraps.

amen. Boo is and has always been in the pockets of the big conferences.

Wait a minute.

It wasn't the posters here who started this. It was Norman Hassell. He was the one who said (at least was quoted as saying) that Snowden wasn't meeting the entrance requirements.

To all those saying Wilder can get anyone in why can't JJ. Well according to Harry today highly touted freshman RB Wesley Bullock failed to get the adequate SAT score to get into ODU. Had the GPA not the test scores. Bullock is going the JuCo route and we will continue to recruit him.

I can't believe Jeff Jones didn't go to bat for this RB. Jones should have taken on the admissions office with full force to get this guy on the football team. Jeff Jones is the devil in human flesh.

More importantly, Bullock is from Florida. Shouldn't Coach Wilder be concerned about poisoning the recruiting well?

This decision could have repercussions for centuries! I can't believe Bullock's high school coach hasn't taken to the papers decrying the totally unrealistic admissions standards at ODU.

RE: Snowden to Niagara
I am not sure what the actual ODU entrance requirements are. Except for the 2.5 minimum GPA.
I am not sure if there is a sliding scale with respect to test scores vs GPA or not.
I do know that 920 (460 Reading, 460 Math) combined is the 25th percentile cutoff for admitted students in 2012. http://collegeapps.about.com/od/collegep...ersity.htm
This means that a combined 920 or lower puts you in the lower 25 percent of enrolled students. The absolute minimum is likely going to be lower. How much lower I don't know. I guess we could call the admissions office and ask.

We do know what the NCAA standard is, however. http://fs.ncaa.org/Docs/eligibility_cent..._Sheet.pdf
It operates on a sliding scale.
For example, if a prospect has a 2.5 GPA his/her combined SAT (no writing) must be 820.
