What language are the text books written in? What language is the teacher speaking? What is the language on our currency? What language was used to write the Constitution?

But you see, they don't consider that part of the country the United States. Kids in Pima and parts of Maricopa are taught that we stole the entire southwest from Mexico.

Well, it's not a joke and it's not a insignificant problem. Usually only snarky liberals make wise cracks about the United States losing its sovereignty. Maybe I misunderstood your tone. Don't believe it's a problem? Go down to AZ and see for yourself. Reconquista is real.

I didn't even see that part about the US losing sovereignty. I was just commenting on the fact it doesn't bother me at all to be around folks speaking a different language, especially Spanish. That could because I can speak Spanish (not fluent yet, but working on it ). I love to visit AZ sometime, just not in the summer. 04-cheers

I don't live in AZ anymore.

I personally find it offensive when people come to America and talk in their native tongue in front of other Americans in public, in the school or in the workplace. I think it is rude and shows lack of assimilation. The point being that English is our identity. It is our culture. It is our language. There are many people who use their non English language as a power trip or act of dominance. A tool to impose. This is one of those times. I saw it time and time again while living in that state.

This crap has no business in our colleges, or public school systems.

I've never had an issue with folks that speak a different language. Maybe it's because of the places I've traveled or the girls I've dated. Hearing other languages fascinates me and given the fact I'm trying to learn a new language just makes more aware of how hard it is for some of those non-English speakers to learn English. Contrary to some people's popular belief, if someone around them is speaking another language, chances are they aren't talking about them.

That's all well and good, but I'm pretty sure you would take issue with countless non English speaking people taking over Virginia. I sure you would not enjoy all signs being in a language you cannot understand. I'm sure you wouldn't want your daughter to be taught her coursework in a foreign language. I'm sure you would not want Virginia to be a predominantly Spanish speaking state. That is happening in other parts of the country. People feel like strangers in their own land.

Taking the melting pot sentiment too far are those who think we a cornucopia of languages and pocket cultures. Yes we are a melting pot. But we are also a sovereign nation with our own culture and customs. English being at the forefront. We have assimilation for a reason. Otherwise there is total chaos.

In other words, they need to learn and speak English. This is not Mexico and we don't owe them anything.

Then why do county courts supply interpreters for Hispanics?
They also aid them through
the process acting like free attorneys.

RE: Reconquista continues
La Raza does not recognize the peace treaty Santa Anna signed with Sam Houston.

Quote:The Battle of San Jacinto, fought on April 21, 1836, in present-day Harris County, Texas, was the decisive battle of the Texas Revolution. Led by General Sam Houston, the Texian Army engaged and defeated General Antonio López de Santa Anna's Mexican army in a fight that lasted just 18 minutes. About 630 of the Mexican soldiers were killed and 730 captured, while only 9 Texans died.[3]
Santa Anna, the President of Mexico, was captured the following day and held as a prisoner of war. Three weeks later, he signed the peace treaty that dictated that the Mexican army leave the region, paving the way for the Republic of Texas to become an independent country. These treaties did not specifically recognize Texas as a sovereign nation, but stipulated that Santa Anna was to lobby for such recognition in Mexico City. Sam Houston became a national celebrity, and the Texans' rallying cries, "Remember the Alamo!" and "Remember Goliad!" became etched into Texas history and legend.
