Women's Sports to be Added
Did I just miss it or have they announced what women's sports are to be added to meet the title IX requirements?

I don't believe the sports have been announced yet, but I would assume women's lacrosse is one, since they can use the same facilities in the spring. If they need to add another, it will likely be field hockey. They might could add swimming & diving if the CPA's pool is Olympic-sized (I don't think it is, or we would already have a team).

The CPA pool was intentionally made too small so athletic teams couldn't use it.

I don't know how many we would have to add, but the top three I could see them adding is: Bowling, Lacrosse, and Rifle (since there is already a range in the dome). Bowling would probably be the cheapest option.

The absolute lowest cost option possible to meet the absolute minimum requirements.

Rifle makes sense facility-wise, but I'm not sure how many numbers you get from that, (how many shooters are on a roster). A partnership with ROTC could be very beneficial and help save costs. (ROTC officers coach, ROTC scholarships offered, etc.)

Lacrosse works VERY well. They can play at Summers-Taylor, and with our proximity to the east coast and mid-atlantic, I think they could get some players.

The school could buy the old Leisure Lanes building going toward Jonesborough and use it for a recreation facility for students AND a home bowling venue. Again though, I don't know if its worth the "bang for the buck" even if its cheaper, you only have 10 or so bowlers on the roster.

Another option might be rowing. Its not number of scholarships offered, its opportunities to participate. UT balances football by running 5 or 6 full boats in their rowing program. There are about 80-something rowers, but only a few (5-6?) get scholarships.

Speaking of scholarship costs, what is the recruiting budget here?

Sorry for using an old thread... heard that Johnson City Parks and Rec has approved a study on a rowing facility to be developed in Winged Deer Park. Wondering if this is community posturing toward the supporting of an unknown ETSU women equivalancy sports to offset football? I think this would be a great add to this area if they can pull it off.
