Sun Belt Preseason Rankings & All Conference Team
Cajuns, Warhawks Tabbed Preseason Sun Belt Favorites; Browning, Jackson Preseason Players of the Year - See more at: http://www.sunbeltsports.org/SPORTS/Mens...ZpDp3.dpuf

NEW ORLEANS – Much of the chatter this offseason around the Sun Belt Conference has been focused on the lack of a clear-cut favorite headed in to the 2013 football season. The 2013 Preseason Coaches Poll released Monday at the league’s annual media day might only further the talk.

Louisiana-Lafayette and Louisiana-Monroe both earned 57 total points in the combined voting of the eight league head coaches. That makes the two instate rivals co-preseason favorites – a fact that will surely spark debate amongst league fans between now and the start of the season. The Cajuns did secure four first place votes, while the Warhawks had two. However, ULM’s star quarterback Kolton Browning leads the Preseason All-Sun Belt team in being named the Preseason Offensive Player of the Year.

While the two Louisiana foes topped the preseason poll, two time defending champion Arkansas State was picked third with 45 total points and the Red Wolves had two first place votes of their own. Despite the third place nod, ASU had the most players selected to the Preseason All-Conference team with seven total selections.

While ASU earned 45 points, the Bobby Petrino led WKU Hilltoppers trail by only one point for fourth place with 44 points. The Hilltoppers had the second highest amount of selections on the preseason all-conference team with five. Among the WKU selections for individual preseason honors was linebacker Andrew Jackson who was also named the league’s Preseason Defensive Player of the Year.

Troy was chosen as the fifth team in the poll with league newcomer Texas State in sixth, South Alabama in seventh and Football Bowl Subdivision first year participant Georgia State in eighth. Both Troy and USA had three selections on the preseason team.

More love than USA and GSU! The other coaches don't know your players yet so it is not a surprise that none were picked. They can use that as motivation.

Yes...yes...this is about right. TROY's defense won't have any talent again this season 04-bolt

I expected 5th. Thought we'd get a defensive player. Makes sense though since they haven't played in the conference yet.

If you check the ballot from our beat writer I would have to fault the other SID's and media reps. If he has taken the time to check out the other teams they could have reciprocated.

We have guys that have made recognized media outlets (for football) pre-season lists but couldn't get on the conference's voted team? That's just lazy.

(we have the #4 ranked special teams for 2012....in FBS, with everyone returning and not one guy made the conference team?)

You wouldn't have found anyone from ULM on last year's pre-season team. Don't worry about it.

ULM - smallest budget by far and #1. Not to mention all the good press beating Ark and taking Baylor to the wire. Gotta respect the Warhawks.

I don't think Orakpo or Yendrey should be ranked on any preseason polls.

They haven't played football in what? 18 months? It's tough to say that the time off won't hurt their game. I don't think it will, but then again, I'm a homer.

What surprised me was the 8 votes for Georgia State. Not a knock on the Panthers, but if memory serves, they were downright BAD last season.

Point values are based on how an individual coach ranked your team. 8 coaches vote Georgia State last place = 8 total points.

Just my guess though.07-coffee3

Thanks GSU Eagles. I've always had great respect for your program and remember great games when we used to play and looking forward to the future.
