Actually, I spend quite a bit (more than I'd like) of time over in Eastern Europe and its not really the case.

What we do see is this.

1) Eastern Europeans are FAR more homophobic than Western Europeans. Russia is the worst (its like Egypt/Saudi Arabia bad now), but there is a lot of violence in Serbia. Hungary is getting worse. So's the Czech Republic. Lithuania was always bad. Poland is getting better.

2) The actual number of out Gay man in those nations is actually smaller. Due to sometimes EXTREME homophobia (think Mississippi in the 60's) in some of those nations, you're more likely to meet a Gay Romanian in Amsterdam or London, than in Cluj or Bucharest.

It is true that much of the Gay porn is sourced in Eastern Europe. That's probably where the reputation comes from. But that is probably more a case of people doing things for money (There are countries in Eastern Europe that are VERY poor - and sleazy people do try to take advantage) than an indication of any greater incidence of Gay men. And Gay people don't have a monopoly on sleaze when it comes to taking advantage of E Europe's poverty. Every time I go over there (including starting tomorrow) I bring a big umbrella to beat off the female hook*ers and their johns. At least in E Europe I can just tell them Ich bin Schwule (they all understand German) and get them to go away. Its been so effective that one of my very straight coworkers has started doing the same thing.

He has a problem with anybody who isn't a straight white male Christian.

HRC is a stronger candidate than Obama. Think about that one for a second. She'll poll as well with African Americans and higher with Hispanics (where she is very popular) and women.

HRC will not face a major primary challenge if she runs.

If HRC does not run, Mark Warner is the strongest candidate (he's apparently interested). He'd be pretty formidable.

Other than Christie, there isn't a GOP candidate that can appeal to a broad national electorate. I don't think Christie can get out of the GOP primary season. Christie, even if there are so many teaparty/libertarian candidates that he manages to get the nomination, does not have the disposition to avoid grating comments. I don't think Rubio could beat Clinton in Florida. Rubio would probably not poll well with Mexican-American groups (who have very little in common with Cuban Americans). Rand Paul isn't going to be President. He'd lose 40 states.

it's fonzies when these pop up from time to time......
