Top Attended Football Games that UAB Played in
As a result of the basketball attendance being mentioned in another thread, I thought about looking at the top attended UAB football games (home & away).

Well, up until the Ohio State game last year the top 4 games were at Tennessee. The next 2 were at Georgia, next 2 at Florida, then the LSU game.

The Ohio State game from last year now comes in as the #3 top attended game. 105,019 9/22/12 at #16 Ohio State (L 15-29)

Attend. Date Opponent (Score)
107,529 9/3/05 at #3 Tennessee (L, 10-17)
106,508 11/7/98 at #2 Tennessee (L, 13-37)
98,205 9/13/08 at Tennessee (L, 3-35)
95,183 9/25/10 at Tennessee (L, 32-29, 2OT)
92,746 9/16/06 at #9 Georgia (L, 0-34)
92,058 10/25/03 at #4 Georgia (L, 13-16)
87,473 9/10/11 at #18 Florida (L, 0-39)
85,575 8/31/02 at #6 Florida (L, 3-51)
85,339 9/23/00 at LSU (W, 13-10)

RE: Top Attended Football Games that UAB Played in
Imagine what we might see in attendance figures if one of those SEC "Big 4" would come to B'ham for a UAB home game? Not only would we get their fans in large numbers, but we would get a major boost in our own following as well. Look at the attendance Ole Miss had for their bowl game here. We might not get as many as they get at home, but we would definitely need Legion Field's capacity to get them to come.

If we could play Troy & USM at home in the same season, we might set an average attendance record for the year.

Then again, the next year probably would totally suck.

Troy and Alabama A&M next year could draw well next year. Any insider info on future games? It is empty after next season.

For the most part, that is true and disgusting! Then when they are on the road they end up at a neutral site. I'm happy to say I've never, ever been a fan of the $EC.

By scheduling 1/3 of their 12 games AT HOME against teams they are 90+% likely to beat, BCS schools have "a leg up" on a winning record and can therefore dominate the bowl games at the end of the year. These bowl games paying into the conference coffers enable their members to have lush recruiting budgets so they can dominate the various lists of top 200 recruits EVERY year. I expect the new playoff system to be "played" by these same teams and conferences just like they did the BCS bowl games (did you notice that not one NonBCS team played in a BCS bowl game last season?).

Didn't NIU play in the Orange Bowl last year?

I remember being at the Kansas game and asking my dad what was going on. Oh the days of being a kid and watching a crazy OT game...I also remember the Virginia Tech homecoming game where we caught an interception in the end zone and I thought it was a TD...

Well the top half doesn't. I don't expect to see utk, uga, fla, alabama or Lsu to travel to a non power conference school, but Middle Tennessee has had Ms State in Floyd, and MT has a four game deal (2 home/2 away) with vandy starting in a couple of seasons.

Same with the top of the ACC, I'd be surprised to see a Clemson or FSU travel to a C-USA stadium, but MT has had Maryland and Georgia Tech in JRF Stadium (both 2 away for 1 home) and in a deal that is hard to explain, the Raiders hosted Virginia with no return game.

There were only 44,000 people at the American Idol game? Dang, traffic was so backed up we didn't get there until half time. Based on that, I guess I'd hate to see a sellout.

Yep. I think there was about 8000 left after halftime.

While I would like to see large crowds for UAB's sake, for my own personal sake of getting away from the stadium I either want a blowout or a reasonable sized crowd.

Then again, if the cops on graymont would lead us towards 59 instead of in circles the traffic jam will disperse a lot faster.

Of course converse that with having to wait 2 hours to leave from our game against Auburn in '96.

I wonder if we could make them believe that historic legion field home of the first SEC playoffs is a neutral site?04-cheers
