So JMU colors are a royal purple and a Vegas gold? Sounds like Liberace was involved in choosing our school colors.

Though I love our school colors, I'm assuming we were still an all female school when they were chosen. This is just a guess, I don't feel the need to look up the answer as to when the decision was made.

In addition, I was told, when JMU had the first few males on campus, the gay community was well represented. I hope this statement is not offensive, I am only stating what I thought to be true without any facts, I could very well be wrong, and in no way meaning to put anyone in a defensive position.

I doubt that is true as the first male students were admitted after WWII on the GI Bill. My Father was one of the first fifteen men admitted in the 40s. I am sure you must be referring to the mid 60s when we had men living on campus for the first time. I began at Madison in 1969 and I can't say I was aware of anything out of the ordinary, then.

There is also a "legend" of a ghost in the tunnels under the quad buildings. Her name is Wendy. Don't believe everything you hear, unless it is on here! Then it has to be true.03-no

I'm so glad I happened to live in Wampler Hall sophomore year & walked past an access door that was left unopened. Of course, we went in & sure enough, there was the tunnel that ran parallel to the quad (essentially underneath the front patios of the dorms on that side). The coolest part was seeing where they had bricked up the tunnels that crossed underneath the quad. I'm not sure I would've walked across them anyways given the chance. I imagine it would get creepy really fast.
