Well, we actually have fans that care about football
Must be difficult to be a fan of a school that doesn't
Seriously, when is UNC gonna start taking big boy athletics seriously
Let's see, UNC has won 40 national championships in all sports. South Carolina - 8.
You guys have never won an SEC championship or national title in football. You've been to 18 bowl games. UNC has been to 29. For a school that takes football that seriously, your history is still worse than UNC's.
I said big boy athletics
Obviously our history sucks, you're hardly the first one to ever notice that
Thankfully our administrative incompetance seems to be behind us for the most part
Lol you just got owned.
And you have to throw basketball in big boy athletics which UNC is not to bad at.....They are pretty good at South Carolina's most successful sport also, baseball.
N. Carolina is good at baseball, but S. Carolina has two national titles. N. Carolina doesn't.

Good is good. Otherwise, you can't say SC is good at football since they haven't won a national title in that either.

Has N. Carolina won one in football? And if so was it within the last 75 years? And by the way I love the apples and oranges logic you are using in this argument. Obviously one doesn't have to win a national title to be good, but winning a national title separates you from those who are just good.

This was between me and Mr. Gamecock who thumbed his nose at us by saying we didn't take big boy athletics seriously. I asked if this was football only and he said yes. Well they haven't won a national title in football or even an SEC title. Trust me, if Bubba Cunningham called Slive today and said we want in, he would immediately start looking for #16.

I know that is true. And I do think N. Carolina plays big boy football. But sometimes they emphasize it and it appears that sometimes they don't. But, it is big boy nonetheless. Anyone that doesn't think so needs to suit up in Carolina Blue and line up against Clemson and F.S.U., or several others. Under Spurrier however the Gamecocks play on a level equal to anyone in the SEC week in and week out. What they have had the misfortune of is late season injuries and a lack of depth at key positions that have kept them from being successful through the championship game. I see them as a dark horse to take the SEC this year. Their depth is better. The thread is about 80,000 attendance averages (or higher). Razz between N. & S. Carolina is a bit of derailment. I just thought I would quell it before it got really going. Have a good one. JR

Not really. I wouldn't say Fresno State is better than "just good." I wouldn't put Michigan, Cal, Rice, Wichita State, Oklahoma, (Minnesota), Stanford, Oklahoma State, Georgia, (Missouri), etc. above North Carolina.
It seems to me, that in this day in age (in no particular order) the top ~15 teams are: FSU, UVA, UNC, LSU, OSU, ASU, UA, CSUF, USoCar, UF, Stanford, Rice, UT and UM.

FSU's averaged over 80,000 NUMEROUS times since 2000. It's just taken a dip since the economy faltered, FSU faltered and Bowden retired. But it's risen from its low a few years ago.

Understood. We will most likely never have an 80,000 football stadium. In part, this is due to the locations of other universities in the area (Duke 15 mins, NC State 25 mins).

What you are saying is true, but not last year which I believe was the qualifier used in the original post.

Here you move the argument from a specific S. Carolina vs N. Carolina to a general one for college baseball teams. Since both S. & N. Carolina have not only good, but traditionally great baseball teams it is fair to make the distinction that the Gamecocks did indeed win two titles.
Your broader argument is for the most part on target, but there are some teams listed there that have significantly slipped in the past few years and you've left out a few that may or may not have bolstered your position like this year's champion, UCLA.

If the football first programs of the ACC step up their game they will raise all boats. If the ACC starts receiving attention for football then N. Carolina will be right there in the pack and could easily justify a stadium enlargement, and perhaps the Wolfpack too, but I do doubt that Duke would ever need such a capacity. As North Carolina grows demographically I wouldn't rule it out.

They're too close together. Name another area in the country where three FBS schools within 30 mins of each other have a total stadium capacity of over 150k. If UNC was the only one in the area, 80k is easy but we're not. If you look at the other large stadiums in the country...there's no competition that close.

Well there's the Rose Bowl and Coliseum but I think that's legitimately different (especially since neither are on campus and weren't really meant for either school), so point taken.

You have to include Kentucky for the 100k+ list.......they tend to include any and all in the stadium plus if you're driving on Interstate 75 or 64 on gameday, you too will be counted in the attendance total.
