The fact that Texas has blocked expansion and kept the number low enough so that enough votes could be found to disband the conference, that fact has always rolled around in my head.

The fact that they are now trying to rewrite history makes me think that possibility might actually have a chance to be real.

I think part of the price for getting the Horns even part time would be at minimum two of their buddies full time. Now whether that is T.C.U., Baylor, or Texas Tech who knows.

Funny how you and me drift apart in opinion and then come back in line at a later date. I agree with you on the two buddy price. If anything may push Texas in this direction, it is all this public talk about a possible ACC Network. The great part about the ACC to Texas is that they could keep the LHN while gaining four new OOC matchups to schedule as they like while being able to take advantage of AAC Bowls. The AAC would definitely get more leverage with the Bowl Committee's. They love Texas.

As to the two buddies, my guess would be TCU and Baylor. With 7 OOC games, Texas could promise Tech a protected OOC matchup every year. With that match up in tact, Tech could pull an Aggy and become a premier Texas program in a conference of their own yet they would maintain a match up against the Longhorns unlike the Aggies. Personally I think that would be awesome for the Red Raiders. Of course I am saying that from an outside perspective and most Tech fans probably would have to have the idea forced upon them by the Administration.
This is a totally new option vs. the old Texhoma theory... Texas could make this happen. Kansas heads to the B1G. Maybe then the Sooners would join SEC along with WVU.

Sorry, Sooners go north in a perceived academic upgrade as well as a defensive move meant to defend the Sooner tradition in football where as a move to the SEC could seriously threaten that. 05-stirthepot

I completely understand the preference of Oklahoma over Oklahoma State but OSU of today is much much more than the OSU of the past. They certainly know how to get the most out of the considerable talent that they recruit. Oklahoma seems to have an issue with that more often.

You think OU goes to the B1G with Kansas if this goes down? Would they take OSU?

Yes, with Texas not being available to the Big Ten. I think Kansas and Oklahoma are the two obvious choices that the Big Ten would prefer.

I do think Oklahoma would prefer the Big Ten over the SEC should they decide to go along with a Longhorn plan similar to this.

Your question about OSU, are you asking do I think the SEC would take OSU or if the Big Ten would?

The B1G. OU is proud of it's academics I guess but it was not enough to get them into the PAC... I doubt the B1G would take OSU. The SEC might. I think OU has fewer options, being tied to OSU, than they have led themselves to believe. They already proved it with the big snub by the PAC.

That would be nice, but they lean more toward FOX, and I think He1nous is onto something with their ability to compete in the B1G versus failing to live up to expectations in the SEC. Oklahoma State makes money and they would be fine. Neither of them are AAU so that's a wash.

And something else guys, if we go to 4 power conferences I promise you sooner rather than later each conference will have 1 crossover with the others per season. If Texas goes ACC they could play Oklahoma as their Big 10 game and A&M as their SEC. Oklahoma could play OSU as their SEC game and Texas as their ACC game. Should Texas Tech go to the PAC Texas could play them as their PAC game. The possibilities are fairly extensive to the positive side for scheduling.

I don't think the Big Ten would take OSU.

I dont think OU would have been allowed to leave the Big 12 if that meant leaving OSU behind. This concept that OU and OSU are tied and KU and KSU are tied to me is just intellectually unsound. The are tied in that they wouldn't be allowed to leave one behind in a conference that would be seriously harmed with such departures. If everyone leaves and ends up in comparable conferences with an entirely new system, then what is the problem?

OU in the Big Ten and OSU in the SEC? That seems like an upgrade overall for the State of Oklahoma

KU in the Big Ten and KSU in the PAC? KSU might be thinking they got the short end of the stick but they wouldn't be in an inferior conference.

In fact the PAC is great for ISU, KSU and TT. All three are schools that are inferior to a degree than their Big 12 counterparts when it comes to taking advantage of their own Tier 3 rights. The PAC Network funds would be awesome for all of them and they would be awesome for the PAC Network. The Network could start showing games during the earlier time period. That is a lot of advertising bucks.

I think you are right in regards to everyone had to learn the reality of these schools from relatively low population states trying to tie their schools together with any move. It just won't be feasible. They will Have to separate in order for any other conferences to go for it.

I do not see the SEC taking OSU without the main prize. The fact that OU is not an AAU member makes me laugh even louder about the comments on this board about the SEC not being good enough for OU. Guess we might see if the B1G caves in regarding that standard.

I think earlier in realignment it was a gesture of goodwill and why not shoot for the moon in hoping you and your instate rival go together. But now that we are looking at 12 games against only upper tier competition I look for the 4 surviving conferences to have 9 conference games and 1 game each against the other 3 remaining power conferences. So there is no reason that KState vs Kansas couldn't be an annual PAC vs Big 10 game, or OSU versus Oklahoma a SEC vs Big 10 game, or Texas vs Oklahoma an ACC vs Big 10 game. As long as each school makes it into a surviving power conference that should be good enough.

What? Who says the SEC is not good enough for Oklahoma? That certainly is not my point. I am just saying that if you compare the Big Ten and the SEC and you say which one Oklahoma would prefer, I think the honest choice is the Big Ten and I have outlined multiple reasons why I believe that. That is not to say that the SEC is a bad fit for Oklahoma, I just dont think they would choose it if they had the choice.

Why would the SEC want to fill it's last two spots with two teams from Oklahoma? OSU works just fine and just taking one allows them to also take WVU which gets them up into new territory and provides a new rival for Kentucky/Tennessee.

I personally have not felt that the Big Ten is completely solid on the requirement for AAU. It is a big deal but it is not necessarily a firm requirement.

If the Big Ten takes Kansas then they really need to also get themselves a strong football program. OU has that, OU also has pretty respectable academics and they are continuously improving in that regard. If the Big Ten has to "stomach" a non AAU school, Oklahoma pretty strongly fits the bill as to what an Institution would have to have if it was not an AAU Institution.

Yeah, I think that is the rational, up to date mindset towards all of this that you speak of.

Some people are able to understand the change and some wont be able to until something actually happens that illustrates the change.

Not you H. Other posters have made comments regarding SEC academics and culture, and the OU distaste. If the SEC ever gets another shot at WVU, it would work. Can you imagine the recruiting battle in the state of Oklahoma?
