Gymnastics Coach
What gives? http://www.mlive.com/broncos/index.ssf/2...cs_co.html

The guy leaves UM as an assistant to take over our program and over a short three year reign, has success. Then leaves to take his old job back.

Was it something about WMU, or he left UM because of reasons that are no longer there? Either way don't like it. Hate losing anyone or anything to that school.

Big Ten is a charter plane league, MAC is a bus league.

Bye don't let the door hit you on the way out
“ ' I started my career at Michigan and was an assistant coach for more or less the first three years of the program,” he said. “Timing is everything and really it was the right time for me to go back. Even though I feel like Western is going to have an opportunity to move forward, I feel like it’s a different level of moving forward than Michigan, where we’ll have a chance to be in the top five in the nation. Western will be looking to break into the top 30, which is great, but it’s not the same level. ' ”

That attitude GOOD RIDDANCE!!! We are at the same level whether you and your arrogant friends from the school in Ann Arbor like it. Glad you are going and don't let the door hit you too hard on the way out the door. We will get a coach that actually wants to be here.

At least Fleck doesn't act like this
It is hard to argue that he is faking that passion for making WMU a dominant program. The way he is acting it is clear he was being fake his entire time he coached the program. Fleck went to a MAC school and wants to be a symbol of building a program up rather than going to a school that has tons of money and expects to win. I would rather have a coach that appreciates the opportunity and it doesn't seem will bash us on the way out the door.

NOT TO SAY CUBIT DID THAT. WE CAN I THINK ALL AGREE ON THAT HE LEFT WITH CLASS.

Not sure how PeeJay got relevant to this discussion, other than for man crush reasons which I don't buy into at all, but two things stick out in my mind.

1.) The money does talk.
2.). No reason to talk down your past employer ever when you are moving on to something that you think is better for you.

As Bear said, "the next time that you get in the endzone, act like you've been there before".

No way PJ is in this for the long haul. If he wins he will be at Rutgers or the like and we will be looking for a "proven head coach" again... I would not blame him, he would be looking at life changing money. If he does leave I hope it is with more class than his one day OC job at NIU.

I'm looking for life changing money, or at least a backup singing role in the band Belle and Sebastian.

I don't like WMU being used as a stepping stone, but it is what it is.

I know that the MAC is the cradle of coaches. But Molde was long term. So were Cubit and Doolittle.

Yeah - and where did that get them?

Some decent success and ultimately burned out by WMU leadership (or lack thereof) only to end up being fired in the end. Slowly and painfully. Pattern?

Well, none we exactly top flight coaches. Molde was the best of the bunch, and yet he could only take WMU so far (one championship).

So - do you want coaches who will stay at Western until they get let go, or "top flight coaches" who win quick and leave?

Can't have it both ways.

Nope. You know where I stood. Now you add "coach informercial" into the mix and I feel more strongly about that than ever before. Plus, three coaches at different times in WMU athletic history, but yet all with similar success (please ladies, let's not start spitting hairs on what we call success, they had some success) and the same outcome, blaming the coach alone for a pattern is very myopic.

Edit: Really nice to have an adult conversation about this without lapdogs biting at my ankles these days.....
