Snowden reportedly seeking asylum in Russia

NSA leaker Edward Snowden reportedly is seeking asylum in Russia.
Interfax news agency reported the development on Monday. Snowden is believed to be in the transit zone of the Moscow airport, where he arrived more than a week ago from Hong Kong as he evaded U.S. extradition.

Why would Putin want Snowden to stop leaking secrets?

Edit: Would Russia want those secrets and have America not know what secrets Snowden gave up?
