OT - SCOTUS rules on benefits for same-sex couples
The SCOTUS struck down a provision that blocked same-sex couples from receiving federal benefits in a 5-4 vote.
"By this dynamic DOMA undermines both the public and private significance of state sanctioned same-sex marriages; for it tells those couples, and all the world, that their otherwise valid marriages are unworthy of federal recognition. This places same-sex couples in an unstable position of being in a second-tier marriage."
Mods - please advise if this is better suited in the Quad.

RE: OT - SCOTUS rules on benefits for same-sex couples
Finally, a vindication of the American system of dual sovereignty, and the authority of states to regulate (absent Constitutional provisions to the contrary) what they have traditionally regulated!
It's about time!
What are the chances that the Court will apply similar common sense on other legislative issues?
