Compher was cashing pretty big NIU checks just months ago, he can find co-workers without disripting NIU. This is a little different then coaches taking other coaches with them.
A no-poach close is literally one of the dumbest ideas I've ever heard. Good luck getting anybody with any aspirations of moving up in their profession.

Do you really think a no poach clause would be remotely legal.
No compete clauses are a bear to defend.

You are correct.
She was let go.
Surprised many of the experts in everything on this board
didn't pick up on it or remember.

Thank you sportsfan.

So JC didn't poach, but rather hired someone who was unemployed.

People, she was let go by NIU months ago. Compher is hiring someone he trusts and thinks is good at their job. There is no poaching going on here!

Another thing you have to consider: unless you're an AD or Assoc AD, you are not making that much money in an Athletic Dept, one of the many reasons there's always new faces. Very common for those in the field to work at 3-5 different schools before landing a top spot that pays very comfortably

No loss. She was clueless in how to properly deal with donors and cultivate new ones. I look forward to the next administration.

Still not sure if this true, but I'm hoping it is, because just like DogFan and HuskieFootballAddict, I agree this is absolutely no loss. Check around folks, word is that the manner in which Spears handled getting rid of her is one of the personnel issues that got him in trouble. Either way, she was threatening to go to court for unlawful dismissial. I'm hoping she is truly gone and that means there will not be the potential for athletics to lose money beyond what it took to settle with her and let her re-unite with Compher. I'm certain there are folks on this board with far better connections and knowledge who are aware of this discussion.

I have ALL the nasty correspondence she sent to me & to HuskieBob. Pretty hard to get around nasty emails with her signature on them. She will lose in court...trust me. I have a hunch there are other fans/donors who would step up regarding her treatment of them as well.

Re: Shelley Binegar
I am a donor at a pretty high level. I have also made multi-year donations to both capital campaigns. Shelley never took the time or effort to connect with me even though I introduced myself to her several times. I got tired of introducing myself and just gave up because it appeared to me that she was not a people person. Yet, that was her job!

Good luck to our friends at ECU. You'll need it.

Shelley was always polite to my wife and I. I have no personal complaint about her, and no one is irreplaceable.
However, I definitely would not take an offer from Compher and think that I was bettering myself.

What he didn't tell her is that she is the ECU ambassador to Idaho, she will be stationed in Moscow, ID, and receive her salary in potato by the pound and not cash. Its a demotion.

correct me if i am wrong but wasn't it Spears who did not renew the contract which led to Spears not being a candidate and speeding up the AD search

The anonymity of the internet allows some fools to make outrageous, derogatory remarks about others with no repercussions. As a long time supporter, donor, etc., I have only positive things to say about Shelley. She was very hard working, tireless in her efforts on behalf of NIU, and her loss is a loss to all of us. She was always friendly, accommodating and willing to do whatever it took to help. Let it go.

So, are you saying that people with documented negative experiences with her are lying?

Since I, too, have had nothing but positive experiences with Ms. Binegar, why don't you post the "documented negative experiences" along with what you initially sent to her and let us make up our own minds.....currently the "charges" seem too vague and run contrary to my many interactions with her.

It was more than just a case of not renewing her contract. She was actually removed from her position prior to her current contract expiring by several months. I do believe the "termination" was with pay however.
Not entirely sure on that one.
