Dumb JMU-related story
So, I moved to Utah and live in Salt Lake now, where I met this absolutely huge guy (not fat, like Paul Bunyan). Talk to him some and find out he's a former lineman for the Ravens named Dave Hale. He played for Weber State, so I told him I knew Weber State and appreciated FCS schools having gone to one. Told him I went to JMU and he immediately knew the name and told me what a beautiful campus it was. He said he worked as a coach with Justin Rascati at Weber State so he was well aware of James Madison.
Dumb story but I thought it was pretty cool. Good guy. By the way, it is amazing how huge NFL linemen are in person, wow.

RE: Dumb JMU-related story
Cool story. I find it odd that when I go outside the typical JMU student footprint, like VA, MD, PA, NY and NJ where we are fairly well established, that I'm as likely to meet people in CA or AZ who will know a little or a lot about us as I am when traveling to MO or KS. Its almost as if the mid-west people live under a rock.

Forgot to add that he even knew what year we won the title, off the top of his head.

Ha, probably because Rascati mentioned it every day that they worked together. I know that's what I'd do.

RE: Dumb JMU-related story
How did you end up in Salt Lake City? My wife and I would love to live there. We stayed at a great place called the Snowberry Inn in Ogden about 3-4 years ago. The Wasatch Mountains are a beautiful range.
Ok, back to reminiscing on the Rascati days...

Short answer: because if you like the outdoors, it is frickin awesome here.
The real answer is a lot longer, but major considerations were: my wife and I have always dreamed of living in the West (especially me as I was born, raised, and always lived in VA), great outdoors, great weather with low humidity and lots of sun, much less Lyme Disease (which is hitting epidemic proportions in the NoVa suburbs), cheap cost of living & especially housing (like living in Winchester,VA) with big city amenities, short commute and low traffic. All major improvements over NoVa where I've lived and worked for the last decade+.
And yes, the Wasatch are amazing. Both beautiful to look at and beautiful to be in.

When I was moving back east I drove through SLC on I-80...that's got to be one of the most gorgeous urban settings I've ever seen

Yup, pretty amazing when you see it for the first time. We fell in love as soon as our plane landed on our first visit.
