Phil Steele gets about as close as any of these summer college football guru's ever get.
First of all, he doesn't use last year's teams and last year's results to grade this Fall's teams. He has a staff of researchers that other magazines do not have, too, so he has much more than just filler.
Second of all..........there is no second of all.
And calm down, USM'ers, all is going to be quite OK---you'll see.

It would be so sweet to see Marshall and Rice play for the C-USA championship this December.

Couldn't have said it better. He a few misses each year, but he is far more accurate than anyone else. Last year he said UCF would one of the top teams, he was right, he wrong calling for them to be C-USA champs and ranked #15, with a shot at a BCS game, but not by much.

Phil called for our winning season streak to end Fedora's first year. He was almost right.

Not sure why USM'ers need to calm down. If you look at his CUSA predictions (in the mag), he thinks USM has a good shot at bowl eligibility and will battle UAB for 3rd in the EAST. In fact, he predicts the old guard - minus UTEP to finish ahead of the newcomers.
