Lansing article on Monty
May be bias as we are Monty fans around these parts. Just me - but I don't think it adequately chronicles all the personnel issues he has had to deal with. Go Huskies

RE: Lansing article on Monty
Monty has this year to show that they are moving in the right direction and will get sometime next year to show that they are competing for a MAC title. If those things arent happening, he will be let go. I can tell that he is starting to see the light at the end of the tunnel. It would be a very bad PR move by the administration, if Monty got less time than Patton. Very big sports year coming up at NIU. I cant wait for aug 31 to get the year started!

Lots of subtle jabs at NIU from the former WMU beat writer.

You mean like this for example:

Quote:NIU’s program has better-than-average basketball facilities, but not a modern example that winning can be done, or an aesthetically pleasing or entertainment-convenient campus to lean on.

Yeah, the writer basically seems to think that Monty is the piece of corn in the poo that is DeKalb.

I think Monty gets 4 years at least. Hopefully this year the Huskies are at least a little competitive in the MAC West.

None of those excuses mean anything. Look at the football program.

The MM foundation is now set. We will see what he can build on it this season. I hope he gets his 5th year.

I don't pretend to have a clue about what Dekalb is like, but I do remember an article (posted here?) where NIU approached the city about developing a more positive mutually beneficial relationship, and being rebuffed. Here (EL/MSU) and elsewhere, the success of the institution and community go hand in hand. I am not sure if this is what the writer was referring to - what was your interpretation?

The writer is basing it on his own bias rooted in spending too much time in Kalamazoo.

Graham Couch has for years ripped on the convocation for its alleged lack of lighting and has called the football stadium a "wind tunnel," no matter when the game is being played. I am not a big fan of the convo - i think it is a rather sterile for a 21st century building - but i don't know where he gets off saying its lighting sucks. the building would be just fine if the team was winning and the huskies drew some crowds. calling campus a lonely place is an exaggeration as well. i'm sure he draws that opinion because just outside of town and campus are nothing but cornfields but the same can be said about my alma mater, central michigan university, and i've never heard it being referred to as "lonely" by writers. as for the "wind tunnel" description of husky stadium, I can't speak to that. is husky stadium really known, more than other stadiums, for its windy conditions?

Don't we turn half the lights off during games so you don't see all of the empty stands?

It's always windy in Dekalb. And damn proud of it.

Yes, and to allow the few fans in attendance to sleep.

I've tried but it's too quiet.

I believe they do turn the lights down, I don't know why. That does make it look a little dismal in there. As for Huskie stadium being windy, they just gotta live with it. Every stadium is different. It helps us, apparently, as we're used to it.

I used to count the broken umbrellas discarded along the sidewalk.

Mike Davis leaving. He got 14 mins a game last year and did not start. He would not be starting this year either. This years starters will be, Highsmith, Aaron Armstead, Aaric Armstead, Darrel Bowie and Jordan Threloff. DaviS does not see himself as a bench player.

Could they have found cheaper, lower quality seats to put in that place??

I've replaced portions of those seats, and no, they could not have.

No. They do it so they can save on electricity costs. 03-lmfao Seriously, I think it is done to focus the light on the court during games. I think this is a fairly common thing.
