I agree that Mickey shouldn't and cannot babysit 63 players, 18 and older adults, at all times. They're their own person and have their own responsibilities.
Would you want your boss to always keep tabs on you, even outside of work? No. If you get arrested though, you may have to face repercussions for it at work.
That is exactly what has happened.

MM will have to answer for the behavior of his players, it's true in every program in the country. He has certainly built up enough credibility to survive stupidity like this, but the supply of credibility is not inexhaustible for any coach at any program. Beamer has had his share of stupidity to survive at VT, and he has but not without suffering some hits. Already today I've had a phone conversation with another Duke Club donor/season ticket holder who was very upset about this matter, primarily because of the crap he had to listen to from UR supporters last night. The only reason I won't listen to the same is alot of the UR people I know are also Hanover HS supporters, so they're all ducking over Crocker. Luckily for Hanover there's always Josh Wells to pull their reputation up. If your players are going to constantly be an embarrassment to the school and program, you darn sure better win a lot.

and that's the only reason Beamer survived all the hits Tech was taking. Another bad season like last year, and the wolves will be circling in Blacksburg.

MM has underachieved for 4 years in a row.

Agreed, DD. And I'll add that I don't understand the mentality I'm seeing on these boards that a coach is somehow immune to the actions of his players and assistant coaches. MM recruited them, and when there is a consistent pattern of bad behavior the impression is there is a lack of institutional control. How many times have we heard that phrase when a head coach is sacked? Sometimes I wonder if we do a good enough job vetting these guys for issues outside of their ability to play football. Personally, I think we roll the dice too often. Do our peers in VA have the same issues? We recruit a lot of the same players, how do they avoid it when we don't seem able to? Is Harrisonburg so boring that otherwise good citizens are forced into a life of crime? Maybe we are ready for FBS.

Durden may be laughing, but if you have ever been through VSU, you would know that Malone isn't laughing.

I doubt any coach is laughing. This stuff is constant and pervasive.

YES! And, not only VA, but nationwide.

RE: Crocker and Davis
Schools everywhere have this problem with football players. In order to get good talent you generally need to go to rough areas to recruit. An 18 year old kid who has little direction, little guidance and not a lot of good decision making skills isn't magically going to change his behavior overnight because he's now a college football player. His bad influences aren't going to go away just because he doesn't live in Baltimore or Newport News anymore either. Even kids from very privliged backgrounds fall into the trap of being kids (look at the trouble Mike Golic's kid got into at Notre Dame) sometimes.

All Dukes All Day, damn, wasn't aware Newport News has the same street cred as Baltimore!

Also, Harrisonburg doesn't have an amusement park or hundreds of night clubs, but there's plenty to do. The whole damn Skyline Drive is a 30-minute drive away. It's not a city, but to pretend like there's nothing to do is like saying there's nothing to do in Fredericksburg. Sure, you're "right" compared to DC or VA Beach, but it's a lame excuse.

Laughing about what? The two young players that they may have recruited throwing the opportunity of their lives away? Or the hilarity of the young lady who's been shot with a rifle 3 times? Perhaps the slapstick of those crazy kids that will spend a real long time locked up for dealing the dope and shooting the place up when the deal went the way of so many of these transactions.

I'm sure those two are having a real belly laugh, if they're utter imbeciles.

Which, fortunately, they are not.

I didn't list Blue Hole, but obviously that's an option. Yes, it's much more nature-oriented, but there's a ton of things to do. You just have to try. It's more about college kids loving drugs than any other reason.

Glad you said it and I was about to ask.... For all you Harrisonburg "haters" with claims of nothing to do, what is it that you believe Hburg lacks? I've lived here for over 10 years now and I haven't really had a day off yet. There's lots to do! And I suppose it's all perspective but no matter where you live, that place is what you make it, and I can tell ya I have a damn good time in Harrisonburg and I've hardly tapped what the Shenandoah Valley has to offer! The people claiming there's nothing to do are usually the ones sitting around doing nothing, just sayin!

Laughing at MM's boat taking on water. Many feel those two were a sacrifice when it should have been 3 and punt Mickey that should have been fired.

Take a deep breath, everybody is aware a young lady was injured and we all hope for a full and quick recovery.
