UTEP played in that bowl, it was the 2nd highest attended game they've had and UNM has played there twice. 32k and not very many byu fans at the game.

I was there, freezing my azz off. I also came home the same day to watch UTEP bball play TX Tech that night. It was a Miner fans' sports feast day.

And the Miner fans traveled in large numbers.
Here's a few pics of the stands.

You get an extra month to practice. Most coaches use it to prepare for the next year as much as they do to prepare for the bowl game.

That would be a very nice bowl to be a part of...I've only been to Albuquerque once in my life, but it left an indelible impression, such a breathtaking scenery and all. Would love to go back there and visit again, and this would be a nice incentive to do so if UAB can find its' way into a bowl game in the very near future.

When will we know when this bowl is officially ours?

I did the same thing.

I did it, unfortunately, my friend didn't, and gave his bball tickets to his brother who graduated from Texas Tech. I think that was the game where the TT fan collapsed behind the bench

RE: C-USA vs MWC in New Mexico Bowl?
It is nice to add another bowl, but I'm not happy about the Beef turning into a rotating spot for C-USA. And, I'm sad to lose the Armed Forces Bowl too.

I really hope we can keep the N.O. Bowl. I still say C-USA needs another bowl in Texas. Either Houston or San Antonio.

Heart of Dallas Bowl C-USA #1
Houston/San Antonio Bowl C-USA #2
Hawaii Bowl C-USA #3
Beef O Brady's Bowl C-USA #4
New Orleans Bowl C-USA #5
New Mexico Bowl C-USA #6

I think we'd still need a 7th bowl, but this line-up doesn't look bad.

I agree, but I would say East would be better for balance. There are already 4 in the west (although Hawaii probably could almost be called neutral)

I agree. There should be another game in the East. New Mexico Bowl is a MWC location, just like the Hawaii Bowl. I'd be glad to see a bowl added in Houston or San Antonio and one in Florida.

Like when North Texas took about 16-17,000 Mean Green fans down to the Big Easy for a Tuesday (work & school) night New Orleans Bowl game last decade and almost 20,000 fans down to UT-"AUSTIN" to play the Longhorns?

Here you go, UTSA guy, this is what we were doing in 1977. We're looking forward to having your football team this Fall.

And any of you other Big Talkers see any present AAC schools in this poll? Moral of Story: Yes, it's been awhile but............................."We're Baaaack!"
NOTE: TCU wouldn't even schedule UNT for well over 30 years, ie, during the Abner Haynes Era, the Mean Joe Greene Era or the Hayden Fry Era....anyone want to venture a guess as to why? Then take a wild guess as to the only times they would schedule us? LOL!

1977 (Final Rankings--UPI)
1. Notre Dame
2. Alabama
3. Arkansas
4. Penn State
5. Texas
6. Oklahoma
7. Pittsburgh
8. Michigan
9. Washington
10. Nebraska
11. Florida State
12. Ohio State
(tie) USC
14. North Carolina
15. Stanford
16. North Texas
(tie) Brigham Young
18. Arizona State
19. San Diego State
(tie) N. C. State

Is that the only time UNT has finished ranked or the most recent?

A MWC opponent isn't terrible and CUSA-West should travel well but its only a small victory.

HoD 1.1 mil payout
Hawaii 650K
Beef 550K
NM 450K

We need to secure AT LEAST 2 more bowl tie ins for our 14 team conference. Preferably 3.

The only downside I see to New Mexico is the way before Christmas date. I agree that Albuquerque is a great city to visit. But I've been to all the recent Rice bowl games, and it is much better to be playing after Christmas. New Orleans was also a good experience, but I would take Fort Worth and Houston in the week after Christmas 10 times out of 10 times.

With the casinos, aquarium, and the bowl game, there's at least three days of fun stuff to do.

But didn't the worst-rated bowl finish with a higher TV viewing audience than the 1-aa championship game ?

Also, the conference will usually reimburse any travel losses incurred.

Hard to buy that kind of exposure on national TV.

Recruiting and donor giving should also get a boost.
