Compher wants us to go out a winner

**********

“Our future looks very bright, and a lot of it has to do with the energy associated with going into a new conference, but I told our teams, told our coaches and our staff, let’s not write off this last year in Conference USA,” said Compher, the former AD at Northern Illinois who replaced Terry Holland at ECU on May 1. “Let’s walk out of there with a wheelbarrow full of championship hardware.”

Should be a interesting last year in CUSA.

I like Jeff a lot, he is going to be a good AD, IMO.

There's an argument against allowing schools that won't be here to defend their championship from playing in the championship game in the first place.

I'm not even suggesting that I support that argument. But it's out there.

That would the CAA line of thinking, let's ask ODU how they fill about it.

I know a lot of ADs that disagree with Compher. Not at USM, because we again don't have an AD, but at about 12 other schools.

What? They don't want to win??????

If your still talking about not allowing ECU to compete for championships, forget it. It's not in the by-laws and you just let 4 teams do it in their last year. The would be a big push to file an injunction against you to stop it, one that would be winnable, given the fact others have left and won championships, UofL, Memphis to name two.

ECU is in this conference for one more season. I like to think that any and all ECU athletic accomplishments in the next 12 months will be beneficial to the university and the conference as a whole. There's no downside for ECU other than not being able to establish rivalries and other sentiments with their AAC conference mates until C-USA is officially in the rearview. There shouldn't be any downside for C-USA other than imminently losing a consistent contributor to the conference's standing in the realm of college athletics. No sour grapes, just perform in athletics and conduct business. ECU competes. No question.

I think he just means they disagree with Compher b/c they will win instead of ECU.

i have to say I thought about that for a while.. but thinking it over, I say it's a bad idea. If they're in the conference, they deserve to play in the title games (they follow the same rules the non-departees are playing by, so they should have the chance at the same reward)

USM has been like a big brother to ECU. Hope USM finds a great AD soon and most of ECU supporters will always pull for its big brother to do well.

I'm just fine with the outgoing teams being eligible for championships. If you don't want them to win, beat them.

On the money. This conference is pretty wide open.

Think this could be a very interesting yr.

ECU AD Compher high on C-USA this year
http://www.reflector.com/sports/compher-...ac-2089493

"Compher is heralding what he calls a C-USA brimming with potential BCS busters."

RE: ECU AD Compher high on C-USA this year
In all honesty, who cares what he thinks? What is he going to do, come out and say I think the conference sucks?

ECU will be gone next year. The BCS will be gone next year. No team in the AAC or C-USA will sniff the four team playoff. He didn't even mention a team or two that could bust the BCS, just that the conference was filled with teams that potentially could.

I guess you could say they were kind words, but they just don't mean **** to me.

+100

And I REALLY dont want any of those leaving to win any hardware. It would be a bad thing for the confrence if one of them became a BCS buster and have the news outlets blaring that they are going to another confernce. That being said I think the only one that gets hurt if you dont allow those leaving to compete is the students.

So let me try to understand this. You started a thread to let us know that your AD is fact wanting the teams to win. I sure the heck hope you guys didn't hire an AD that wants to lose.

So I guess congrats on having and AD that wants to win. Are there AD's around that do not want to win, I mean there may be a few that are not good at it, but I would bet they all "want" to win, but thanks for letting us know that yours does as well.

Its probably more along the lines of going out strong. I mean, if we are in play for conference games, why not put another trophy on the mantle.

I'm not thinking its "ohh lets win, its special."
