Construction Takes Over At UNT
Transformation of old stadium, student union lead the work.

A two-year, multimillion-dollar transformation is underway at the University of North Texas, starting with the partial demolition of Fouts Field.

Blue construction fences cover a large part of UNT for several projects. The biggest is the state-of-the-art student union being constructed on the same site as the old one.

The building will include expanded dining and lounge areas, a larger bookstore and, for the first time, office space for student organizations.

"It's been student involvement from day one, so they're with us every step of the way, even picking out furniture, picking out colors," said Zane Reif, union director.

"I really think it'll probably be one of the top five unions in the country when we're done with it," said Reif, who has remodels of other student unions.

At an estimated cost of about $130 million, the student union will be UNT's biggest makeover project.

Middle Tennessee is undergoing transformation (i think it's been transforming since i got there in 2004).

We just opened our state-of-the-art Student Union building last year http://mtsunews.com/new-student-union-tour/

We also opened the Department of Education building

Currently we are building a 250,000 sq ft Science Building. It took years to get the funding and finally they were opened up. The price tag? 126.7 Million! http://mtsunews.com/sciencebuilding/

We have two parking garages that are almost complete, and a new administrative building that will combine all admin that is spread across campus.

Traffic circle #3 has been started.

You should see Old Dominion. New Engineering Research Facility, New Visual Arts Building, extension to the music building. Along with a renovation of the lobby of the student center, and other miscellaneous work around campus. Yup, it's definitely summertime at ODU.

My daughter will be attending UNTin the fall. Should make for some interesting times during games between UTEP and UNT. What is the scheduled completion date for the new student union?

The bigger surprise is that here soon there should be some movement on the idea to expand east over Welch and to remove the parking lots there to add additional dorms and potentially a new psych building among others

There is going to be continued construction at UNT for the 6 to 10 years if you go and look at the expected capital outlay reports at the THEB

RE: Construction Takes Over At UNT
Most schools in the South and Southwest are growing and will be having construction projects for awhile. And most (if not all) of those schools are in states that are economically solvent, too.

Quite amazing how good ol' capitalism still works for most all of us. I'm still doing my research to see where that other kind of economic philosophy of total entitlements for over 50% of a country's population has worked and I still can't find that it ever has. Hmmmm?

I think the State of Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board down in Austin are still projecting UNT's main campus in Denton will grow to be over 40,000 enrollment within the next 10 years so I'm sure more dorms are probably on the drawing boards, too. Here would be the rest of the UNT System... http://untsystem.edu/
