Drew Williamson's buzzer beater vs. GMU in 2005. Couldn't find a video of this one.

Dahi's buzzer-beating 3 vs. George Mason to send the game into overtime.

Obviously, 2007's VCU road-win (Brian Henderson) was awesome as well.

RE: Let's go down memory lane...
Two of my favorite games of all time were actually odu losses believe it or not.

But as a pure basketball fan I can't help but look back on them and remember what incredible games they were, even if we came out on the losing end.

The first was the jameer Nelson/delonte west st. Joes team that we took to the wire (they were in the top 10-5 all year long) and it took a Nelson 3 pointer from about 28 feet out to win the game.

Absolutely incredible.

The other was our loss to Charlotte in 2OT. We actually scored in the 100's with Blaine Taylor as our coach (shocking right, although it did take 2 ot's to get there) and Alex Laughton dropped a constant center record 45 points.

He was completely unstoppable and he was only a sophomore that year. I really thought the sky was the limit for that team which is what made that 05-06 year so unbearable that we could only manage to make the nit final 4. We were absolutely loaded that year.

But yeah, most of my real favorites like the jmu football wins and VCU basketball wins have already been take, so I thought I'd throw a curveball and list my most favorite "losses" but only because odu played really well in both and they were such great basketball games to witness

I'm in Hong Kong and just watched the win over Villanova. Brings back great memories of flying to Albany on the state Cessna jet for the evening. Flew back to Albany for the tough loss to Tulsa.

Great fun.

RE: Let's go down memory lane...
The New Hampshire game was the best athletic event I have EVER seen in person. It had everything: those nervous feelings as the points up, pure emotional highs and lows, and the euphoria of victory.

I'm fairly young (still going to ODU) but I doubt I'll ever see a game like that one again. It was insanity and victory all wrapped up together.

The games against JMU were great also, especially the 2011 one. Plus, I feel that 2011 JMU win was really a (maybe even 'the'?) monumental moment in ODU football. (That catch was awesome also!!!)

One basketball game stands out in my memories, it was two years ago in the game against Drexel. Baze had the chance to tie the game up (at the end of regulation) on 3 free throws but missed the last one. It was still a heck of a game.

Here's one of my favorite MOMENTS (the game itself was sorta ordinary), featuring a much-maligned, underappreciated Monarch:

Marquel Delancey's steal and dunk in the 2012 CAA quarterfinal win over Delaware.

As good as that fleeting moment felt for me, it must have been the lifetime highlight for Marquel -- a totally likeable, very hardworking, but ultimately overmatched player.

I had the "best seat in the house" seat on the baseline for the men's first ever game in the Ted against UNC...what an experience!

I was at both those games as part of the pep band. Wasn't St Joe's #2ish at the time? I thought we had that game. Alex was unreal for the UNC-C game.

One moment will stick out for me is my freshman year at the Women's CAA final tournament. Parts of the band and some students rushed the floor after winning in the title game. Looking back I think "what a bunch of dopes". They went to the NCAA championship last year, of course they will win the CAA tourney. Ticha and the team were good sports and joined in the fun.

Some of these recent highlight clips really bring into focus how good we used to be. I'm old enough to remember watching on TV Billy Mann stealing the inbounds pass and making a layup to defeat DePaul who was number 1 at the time. Talk about a shocker. Another miracle game was coming back from 19 down in the second half to beat UAB in the semifinals of the SBC tournament in Hampton ('85 I think).

RE: Let's go down memory lane...
I was fortunate enough to be at the Sun Belt tournament game against UAB and watched Billy hit the shot against Depaul on television. We had an accounting class together and the professor canceled class in celebration. Billy walked into class to applause and the professor canceled class saying something like "in honor of Mr. Mann's shot class is dismissed".

Another good memory was ODU defeating Richmond in '86 I think the day they made the top 20 (no top 25 back then or we would have been in it because we were close to the top 20 at the time).

For me though was our first CAA championship in 1992. We weren't supposed to be there, but Ricardo Leonard, Donald Anderson and Keith Jackson played their butts off to shock both Richmond and JMU that weekend.

The memories have been many but a couple of my favorites date back to the 70's. One is a game with the 76-77 ODU team. We went to UVA on a road trip and handed UVA a defeat that season. The cool thing about the game was Wilson Washington opened the scoring with a reverse slam dunk that would make top 10 on sports center easily today. He dominated that whole game.

The second dates back to 1971 when Dave Twardzik went 24-26 at the foul line as we defeated Norfolk State in an NCAA Division II Regional game.

Great story about Billy Mann. I also attended the '92 CAA championship against JMU game we won. I remember Lefty Driesel stating that ODU looked like the Boston celtics that night. Purnell really turned around the team quickly after the Capel years.

Ronnie Valentine pours in 36 and Wilson Washington pulls down 14 rebounds as ODU beats Georgetown at McDonough 80-58 in 1977 to get to within 1 game of the NCAA Tournament in our first year in Division I.

Okay, Dancin, you got me to post to this thred. I was there at McDonough and it is quite a memory. I worked in DC that year and my co-workers knew little about ODU...they were duly impressed after that game. The DC newspapers were also impressed.

I will also mention the two games at Scope between Dave Twardzik led ODU and Rudy (Kangaroo) Peele led Norfolk State.

Seriously, these might have been the absolute 2 best games I've ever had the honor to witness in person. Both teams played their hearts out and both offenses were explosive and powerful, albeit in different ways.

Good luck in CUSA!
