Molinaro Article on the Hill Saga
For once, I agree with Bob M. 100%. Also confirms Hill had no idea of this potential issue when he made a decision to transfer. The kid went through 4 coaches in 3 years, including the Blaine Taylor meltdown. What a raw deal. Hope he gets a great job and I wish him success.

Bureaucratic indifference. If there is justice in the afterlife, there will be a place in Hell for the unthinking and uncaring person(s) who can make a decision like this one that so unfairly impacts upon the life of another.

So let's get this straight.........DOnte Hill loses an entire season for playing 8 minutes in a closed exhibition while at Clemson, yet UNC gets NO punishment for having its athletes across multiple sports receive credit for a class that did not exist.
Straight from the Lois Lerner school of fairness and equity.

Don't forget the plagiarism and fudged transcripts.

It is really a shame, the NCAA uses cases like this in an attempt to convince people that there really are rules, and that they really do enforce them, so that when a case like that of UNC arises they can try to sell the story that nothing was found...because of course the NCAA holds its members to the highest level of accountability, one needs look no further than the case of athletes like Donte Hill to see how seriously they take rules infractions. The fact that these ivory tower presidents think it is working is embarrassing.
As long as University presidents, the most out of touch people in America (see Gordon Gee), have control of college athletics, it will always be a disaster.

The thing that always gets me in these situation is where the power in the NCAA is located.
There are 346 NCAA D1 basketball schools. If you take the top BCS programs, there are what? Maybe 50-70? Yet the other 275 let those top schools dictate all the rules...that end up favoring them.
I have never been able to figure out how it happens. Each school has one vote. But in vote after vote, the rules always seem to favor the "haves" at the expense of the "have nots". You'd think that at some point the rest would join forces and make a point. The rules should be applied equally and fairly. Simple enough.
I've had this conversation in the past with a lot of athletic department administrators. Finally one said it. There are a lot of administrators out there that are afraid to speak out because...they hope to be big time administrators. They fear being blackballed for future jobs it they push too far or complain too much.
So much for providing the best and fairest opportunity for the people that really matter- The kids playing and seeking an education.
It is a tough situation for Hill. I hope he finishes his education and goes on to great things. The NCAA should be ashamed. There had to be ways they could handle this without loss of a full year.

I think the culture that fmrick talks about is prevalent in a lot of big industries, corporations, and the government. The "keep your head down and your nose clean" attitude is pervasive in these big cultures. Unhealthy. And unfortunately, kids like Donte Hill (and I'm sure there are others) get the blunt end of the corporate culture.

Donte needs to get his "senior night." I hope plans are underway to recognize Donte appropriately at the beginning of the basketball season.
