it is too far to help except maybe on Saturday night game etc. Everyone needs to get to U Square NOW. this place is already rockin! Linea ll day yesterday at Lime Chicken and the outdoor areas are so cool the Fountains s/b running in about 10 days. Keystone, St Clair's which opens in about 10 days and Lime are HOT! The Vibe sitting outside there has changed campus life at UC forever! It is classy and fun! You should see and hear the parents comments walking up and down with all the clothes stores and stuff going on they are BLOWN away! These places will want all the Basketball and football fans there NOT downtown! The circle of graas wil be perfect for pre-game entertainment!

It does look pretty freaking nice. I also recommend Mr Hantons!

I sure hope the Banks works out long term. When I see it, the pessimist in me thinks of the Flats in Cleveland, and whatever they call that now abandoned entertainment area along the water in Toledo. The optimist hopes for something more like the Inner Harbor in Baltimore.

My former employer had an office by the Flats. The area was great in the 90s, but in the early part of the 2000s it started losing a lot of business due to safety concerns (crime) and a few drowinings that occurred back to back. All the business went to the Warehouse District instead. Cleveland's tanking economy played a major factor as well.

The other thing is that their stadiums are not located in the Flats

A couple of things led to the downfall of the Flats 1) crime issues 2) the city created a competing entertainment district next to it, ie Warehouse Dist.

Both articles suggest a reason to move the basketball games is to support the Banks development. What about the developments occurring all around UC’s campus? The premise of these developments was and is to help the uptown neighborhoods and business districts progress alongside and complement the strides the university has made with its campus and programs. These collective efforts would be put in jeopardy by moving the games that provide a critical revenue stream to local business. Ask businesses around campus and they will tell you that the basketball and football games are the difference in whether or not they are profitable in any given year. If these businesses are not profitable, they will close and all of that work and investment will be for naught. This would be a tremendous disservice to the community, city, university, and region.

Did the articles really say that? When I go to UC games I park, go to the game, and drive home. Now maybe with some new watering holes, Keystone, St. Clair, Brass Tap I might be more inclined to hang around
campus for BBall. The most important question is can UC afford the renovation vs. not having to spend money to renovate US Bank.

Wonder if UC could get naming rights for the Arena? What does US Bank pay for that. "Univ of Cincinnati Arena"

Exactly. UC realizes the benefit of the local businesses in Clifton being successful but if playing the game downtown brings them more money they do have to what's best for them. Now if financially it's not a big advantage they would probably stay on campus.

Adding onto this, if UC moved forward with Fifth Third Arena it would take FOREVER to raise money for it after having already tapped the donor base for $86 million to renovate Nippert. I bet from right now up until the money was finally raised and renovations were completed it'd take almost a decade to actually see a renovated Fifth Third. Whereas if you partnered with the city of Cincinnati and the Nederlander Organization you could start construction on US Bank Arena in the next year so and complete renovations in a couple of years.

Nederlander Organization? Yeah, they could probably move pretty quickly.

City of Cincinnati? Take five years of debate on city council first. Then they would sell the parking rights to an outside source and run the street car through the arena.

Haha so true but yea you get my point, right? US Bank Arena would be renovated and ready to go far before Fifth Third Bank.

Thank you Mr DuBois! Well said....Thank you for sticking it out when Clifton was not cool.
Your expansion alone was a huge start to the engine that is now running in high gear and is one of the Hottest looking areas around the #hottest colleges in America. I am past tired of hearing about US BANk ARENA it was a dead in the 70's! We have a top 25 most beautiful campus in the WORLD! Why would you want to play in a miserable run down arena underneath a highway overpass...It is not in the BANKS! We will find donors if we need to...We just raised a billion, I think we have the fortitude to raise 150 million or whatever it takes. I apologize on behalf of the Bearcat Nation that you and the other loyal business people have been subject to this discussion. Go Bearcats!
