I'll add though this should probably come attached with the caption:

"Objects in mirror may be closer than they appear"

Not just that, but I never liked watching football from a corner angle like that. Hard to see a lot of the action.

Maybe someone who has sat there can correct me, but from that angle it looks like it may be hard to see the action near the opposite end zone.

Not saying anything against what Southern is doing, but FAU's stadium is beautiful.

I am kinda partial to concrete, bricks, mortar, and such over metal structures

Agreed. I'm not a fan of erector set stadiums. So thankful we expanded Paulson with concrete.

I actually like corner seats in our upper deck, but sightlines in that picture are probably less than ideal.

From a pure aesthetics standpoint, I find it hard to believe anyone would disagree with you. Having said that, the "erector set" can be done well and FAU did it very well in my opinion and I love the all seatback feature, I think it's one of the best ways to improve the look of your stadium.

But let's be clear, Southern is spending $10 million to add ~6k seats and an operations building to an existing brick and morter stadium in Statesboro, GA. FAU spent $70 million to build a brand new 30k seat stadium on ocean adjacent property in Boca Raton. The two aren't exactly comparable scenarios.

01-wingedeagle The local economy dictates much of the cost with any construction. I would likely make 3 times my current income for the same job in Boca. The argument could be made that such large scale construction in rural areas would cost more due to logistics and the lack of competition, along with housing of many of the construction workers and contractors for the duration of the job. The cost of the current construction is closer to 30 million with an existing stadium.

Oh thanks for clearing that up. Now that I think about it Kapps argument is solid. Particularly given that the total cost of current construction is three times what was quoted.

I pulled that $10M from wiki, it was later explained well before your reply that it was $10M for the endzone building, $20M for the seats, and $1.2M for the video board, so I later updated it to ~$31M and then I was told it was more like $26M. Of course you would know all that if you had you know...kept reading before replying.

I can't remember the exact totals, but with the additional seats, covered area (bathrooms, fans, concessions, etc.), FOC, plus new sound system and video boards, I think it was about $22 million total.

Again, I get the preference for brick and morter, I just think FAU did a great job with their stadium.

Regardless if it's $26M or $31M the two situations are very different.

And no way no how is it cheaper to build in Boca Raton than in Statesboro.

Cheaper is relative to the local economy. That's all I'm saying.

What is the difference in salary and cost of living though?

+1. Seriously there are people in here who would argue with a signpost and go the opposite way. Who cares if boca would or would cost more???? What the hell is the relevance? Reminds me of guys who have to compensate for other shortcomings and tell you how much all their toys cost all the time.

I guess a similar comparison would be asking how much it costs to rent someone else's stadium instead of actually having your own....

The only relevance was that someone was trashing FAU's stadium as in why would you build an erector set when you can build a concrete and mortar stadium. Relax people. Nobody insulted anyone's Mama.

10 acres of land near our campus will run you about $15M to $20M. Hence we lease te Dome. Still hoping we make a move on the Ted.

In all seriousness, where will this money come from? You guys didn't have enough $ to have a spring game in the dome, how will you buy the Ted? Private funds?

EDIT: Actually it may not be a bad idea to try the student fee route like we did.

GSU doesnt have a $$$ problem. We have an AD problem. We have $1.5B in building projects in downtown as we speak. What is unspoken is that donations to athletics have dried up. Its a no confidence vote with the wallet. Ted and the land can absolutely be done with private funds and a quid pro quo with the city since nobody else wants the land and nobody knows what to do with it.
