Hufnagel wanted the job but it never got to him. The only other spot that Pastner was hiring for was the third spot and that was ALWAYS going to a younger, up-and-coming, grinder type of assistant. Former player was pretty much a prerequisite for that position.
Hufnagel didn't spurn Memphis for Vandy. He went to Vandy because Memphis wasn't an option.
In the immortal words of your boi Stammers: "Link?" "Source?"
http://memphisroar.com/forum/showthread....mire/page2
Seems FT Worth liked the idea, and Stammers was shooting down Memphis players for the idea of Huf.
Interesting for a guy that wasn't a top 3 option.

"I hate that we lost out on the guy from Harvard, he landed at Vandy. "
Hmm.
So now you're putting words into the collective mouths of those that run Memphis Roar because some random guy on a message board (who is not a premo Roar wigga) says something? I see.
Where did I write that it was the "collective mouth" of Roar?
Nowhere, right?
And again, IDGAF. My ONLY post about Yanni (initially) was that he went to Vandy. Others (in particular you and Stammers) immediately took to the response to that post. Not sure why it registered on the all hands on deck alarm.
And my response to your initial post was to simply contend that Hufnagel did not spurn Memphis for Vandy and to also shoot down the negative implications of what you were trying to propagate if that were the truth, which it is not. Hufnagel was never going to come to Memphis for a third spot on this staff, so the third spot was never a legit option to get him to Memphis.

Context my man.
As noted in the inital response, I quoted the hackneyed response from Stammers of "link?" "source?" that he pops in with. So, when you stated with confidence the blurb about Yanni, I just replied in the same silly was Stammers had just replied to me.

Let's see, over 400 posts on hiring a 3rd assistant, and the majority are of the *****-measuring type. Or just plain juvenile.
This place is turning into YMT.

Yet what you were implying and the follow up quotes/links you provided had a completely different purpose than anything Stanmers said. It is what it is. Your NDA comment showed your true colors before any of your other remarks were dissected.

First of all, WGAS IF Yanni did "spurn" Memphis. The Tigers got Kirby, who is much more well regarded.
This, like head coaching searches and recruiting commits, can't be based on absolutes.
The idea that a "formal contract offer" was never submitted for Yanni's consideration should not be the basis for whether he was offered.
Hell, a rep from Memphis might have just floated out the idea that the Tigers would like to talk with Yanni. His "people" might have responded, "ok, but $250K is the baseline for salary" at which point Memphis folks might have responded, "in that case take it easy."
Does that mean Yanni wasn't a target? Nope?
Trying to assign definitive offer/acceptance/rejection for coaches who don't take jobs is impossible.

Who are all these people that know so much about YMT. The few times I was on there about 5 people were on it.
It was a messageboard desert for the most part yet somehow the throngs of barbarians have come over here to invade this land?

No fishing for me.
I like open, non-hostile, discussion. Snarky comments, overgeneralizations, failure to address one issue and lack of focus on big picture inhibits rational give and take.
I recognize we all come at an issue with our own biases and perceptions, and understand that folks don't HAVE to have the same opinion. It's just how you get there. One can be a blowhard, resort to histrionics, emoticons or namecalling to make a point, or one can lay out his or her thought process and explain that point of view.
You might not agree with it, but it is done in a dispassionate way.
Some would rather holler and carry on though.
Oh well. I'll keep doing my thing.
Have a nice one.
LOL Good Lord. Help me. The more I read, the more clear things become.
Reading is fundamental.
Your post was a bit unclear. I assume you disagree with my assessment? Is there any post/thread in particular (you have about 14,000 to chose from) in which I resort to abusive language, name calling or anything like that.
Again, perhaps you may not like the conclusion or question I raise in my posts, but they generally come with some sort of fact to back them or a process by which the idea could be maturely discussed.
Don't stroke that ego too much.

I remember back in 2009 when Cal was on his way to Kentucky and Arizona was looking for a new coach. There was a sports radio show in phoenix that interviewed Pasnter. Memphis hadn't offered the job to Pastner yet, so he was basically set on following Cal to Kentucky if he didn't get the Memphis job. Can't remember the name of the 2 hosts, but near the end of the interview, the topic of Arizona's coaching search came up. Pastner said he'd crawl on his hands and knees to Tucson if it meant getting the Arizona job. Almost 5 years later and I still don't think much has changed.
Can't really blame the guy though. He spent a lot of years there as a player and coach, and even played on a Championship team there.

One thing has changed. He's no longer an asst. coach dreaming of a head coaching job.
